Where have the major MMA events been held?

We’ve looked at where three of the MMA’s leading promotions – the UFC, Bellator and the ONE Championship – have held their events to date.

The UFC is, unsurprisingly, dominated by events based in the United States. In fact, there have been more UFC events held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas than in any country besides the United States itself.

Overall there have been 131 events staged in Las Vegas, which is four times more than any other state – or country for that matter.

Vegas’ dominance is set to continue for a while yet as the recently-constructed UFC Apex has been heavily used since the sport resumed.

Bellator events are even more likely to be staged in the United States, with no other nation having even reached double figures for the number held.

The Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut has been the single most popular venue with 26 events – just over 10% of the total to date – and the forthcoming schedule should see it extend its lead.

It wasn’t until Bellator 152 that an event was staged outside of the United States and Canada, with Italy the venue.

Since then there have been seven more Italian events, making it the most visited country outside of the United States, recently overtaking Canada.

England and Ireland have also hosted six events apiece, with Dublin staging Bellator 243 shortly before the wave of coronavirus-related cancellations began.

Attention is set to return to the Irish capital in October for Bellator Dublin 3 before a second visit to Milan will see Italy featured once again.

For some geographical balance, the ONE Championship has been held entirely within Asia so far.

Up until August 2020, Singapore has staged the most events with 28 although China looks set to overtake it.

Three Reign of Dynasties events are set to take place in Shanghai during September and October, which will take the total number of Chinese events up to 30.
