Two teams in fine form clash when Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray welcomes his former club West Brom to the north east.
The Black Cats have already returned to Championship action, beating Millwall last weekend to bookend the World Cup break with victories, having won at Birmingham on November 11.
The Baggies’ last game was the following day when they beat Stoke to head into the shutdown on the back of three straight wins, but we fancy that impressive run to come to an end.
A home win or draw, combined with over 2.5 goals in the game, is 14/5 and that double chance is our opening Sunderland vs West Brom prediction.
Sunderland Odds
Sunderland’s game against Millwall was the only Championship fixture played last week and the win fired Mowbray’s men five spots up the table to 10th, just a point off the play-off places.
It was the first time this season they have won two in a row and they will be keen to keep the momentum going and register three on the spin on Monday night.
The 3-0 mauling of the Lions was also a welcome return to winning ways at home, as before that game, fans at the Stadium of Light had watched their team go down to Burnley and Cardiff.
The hosts have since enjoyed warm-weather training in Dubai and while Wearside will be somewhat chillier in December, this could be Sunderland’s time to hit a bit of a hot streak.
Looking at the Sunderland vs West Brom odds, we like 7/1 for Amad Diallo to score the opener. He’s on a fine run himself with his four goals this term coming in his last six games, including one each against Birmingham and Millwall.
West Brom Odds
Like Sunderland, the visitors are also enjoying their best spell of the campaign.
Before Steve Bruce was sacked as manager in October, they were in the relegation zone, sitting at their lowest league position for two decades and while they are only just hovering above the bottom three now, under Carlos Corberan they have won three in a row.
Their three straight victories – over Blackpool, QPR and Stoke – are all the more impressive as they kept a clean sheet in every one.
Sunderland have a sharper attack than the teams the Baggies have beaten recently though and they have failed to score only once in their last six outings. That was the 1-0 home defeat by Cardiff – their only loss in their last five matches.
Punters can get 10/1 that it finishes 2-1 to the hosts and that correct score completes our Sunderland vs West Brom betting tips.
