Austin vs Vancouver: More woe for Whitecaps

Kick-off: 1930, 23/04/2022

Stadium: Q2 Stadium

TV: TSN/ESPN+

Austin and Vancouver ended last week’s matches in contrasting moods and are at opposite ends of the Western Conference ahead of Saturday night’s meeting.

The 3-2 victory at DC United was a fourth win of the campaign for Austin, which leaves them second in the standings, while 13th-placed Vancouver have just one win and four points from their first seven games.

Austin are also the joint-top scorers in the West and a home win with over 2.5 goals in the match is our opening Austin vs Vancouver prediction at 2.25.

Austin FC Odds

Austin looked to be heading for defeat last weekend when they trailed to Ola Kamara’s first-half brace but the two-goal hero turned villain when he was sent off just before half-time.

The hosts still looked on course to hold out but substitute Danny Hoesen gave Austin hope when he pulled a goal back in the 80th minute, Sebastian Driussi equalised five minutes later and Ruben Gabrielsen grabbed a last-gasp winner.

It was only the fifth time in MLS history – and the first since 2018 – that a team had come back from at least two goals down in the 80th minute or later to win a game.

Head coach Josh Wolff said: “Yeah, we got a little bit of a break maybe, or certainly a mistake by their player, but you’ve got to go out and take advantage of that.

“Our ability to stay calm and now execute what was needed in the game was awesome.”

That kind of result can only have boosted the confidence of the squad and highlighted the options that Wolff has off the bench when needed.

Austin now return to home soil where they have scored 12 goals in four games, so looking at the Austin vs Vancouver odds, we’re tempted by 4.00 for the hosts to win both halves.

Vancouver Whitecaps Odds

Austin’s elation at their comeback was in contrast to the despair of Vancouver following a 2-1 defeat against Canadian rivals Montreal.

They went behind in the first minute and conceded another early in the second half before Brian White pulled one back in the 65th minute to give us a clean sweep of predictions in our match preview!

Vancouver then thought they had rescued a point in stoppage time but had their equalised ruled out by VAR and the poor start to the season continued.

There is nothing to suggest their fortunes will change this weekend and a 3-1 home win at 11.50 completes our Austin vs Vancouver betting tips.
