Ukraine vs England: Three Lions can reign supreme in Rome

Kick-off: 2000, 03/07/2021

Stadium: Stadio Olimpico

TV: BBC One

England put in a rock-solid performance to beat Germany at Euro 2020 and surely only have to remain fully focused to see off Ukraine in Rome.

Andriy Shevchenko’s side have plenty of spirit and energy but lack the quality of their opponents in practically every department.

The Three Lions have gone six games without conceding and 11/10 for them to win to nil is our first Ukraine vs England prediction.

A Look At Ukraine’s Betting Odds

Ukraine progressed from Group C as one of the best third-placed teams thanks to edging out North Macedonia 2-1 in between narrow losses to Holland and Austria.

Manchester City utility player Oleksandr Zinchenko fired them in front against Sweden on 27 minutes but Emil Forsberg equalised with a deflected effort just before half-time.

In the second period, Serhiy Sydorchuk hit the woodwork for Ukraine before Forsberg curled shots onto the outside of the post and the crossbar at the other end.

Sweden then had Marcus Danielson sent off in extra-time and substitute Artem Dovbyk’s last-gasp header eventually proved decisive.

Shevchenko stated: “Both teams played very well. It was an interesting match. Neither side wanted to lose, so we got this drama at the end.”

It is hard to fault Ukraine’s commitment while West Ham’s Andriy Yarmolenko and Roman Yaremchuk of Gent have linked up well in attack.

They shouldn’t have the pace to test the Three Lions, though, and we like 11/2 for the favourites to oblige 2-0 from the Ukraine vs England odds.

A Look At England’s Betting Odds

England were only workmanlike in topping the Group D table, beating Croatia and the Czech Republic 1-0 either side of a goalless stalemate with Scotland.

The early exchanges with Germany were predictably tight, with Raheem Sterling testing Manuel Neuer from long range and Jordan Pickford doing well to deny Timo Werner.

The second-half introduction of Jack Grealish helped to open things up, though, and he fed Luke Shaw to cross for Sterling to break the deadlock.

Thomas Muller fluffed a great chance to equalise but there was no coming back for Germany after Harry Kane nodded in a cross from Grealish.

That result gave us a nice 5/1 pay-out on Draw HT/England FT.

Tottenham striker Kane told the BBC: “It’s something we’ll never forget. It was a great performance, another clean sheet, just the perfect afternoon.

“So, we’ll enjoy this one but we know we’ve got another big one on Saturday now. We’re keeping clean sheets and we’re building confidence off that.

“This will give us more self-belief going forward but we’ve got to make sure we get it right on Saturday now.

“We can’t switch off. We obviously want to go all the way and we’ll have a tough game coming up.”

Kane and Sterling will dominate the goalscorer markets but we’re going to take a punt on Harry Maguire to net at any time at 17/2 to complete our Ukraine vs England betting tips.

The Manchester United defender put in a towering performance at the back versus Germany and this is the kind of match where he may enjoy success at set-pieces.

Maguire has scored international goals versus Sweden, Republic of Ireland and Poland and is always a threat in the air.
