Pep Guardiola comes up against his former assistant Mikel Arteta once again as Manchester City look to extend their winning run to 18 matches in all competitions.
City look unstoppable at the moment, regardless of which players are missing, although their defence has been breached by Liverpool and Everton in the last three games.
Arsenal have the firepower to cause City problems so an away win and both teams to score at 11/5 is our opening Arsenal vs Man City prediction.
A Look At Arsenal’s Betting Odds
Arsenal put four goals past Leeds last weekend and created plenty of chances in their 1-1 draw with Benfica in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bagged a hat-trick against Leeds but the Gunners captain was guilty of missing a number of chances in Rome.
“Well, these things happen,” said Arteta. “He was on the end of the biggest chances we had.
“He was a real threat, that’s why we played him again today against this opponent with [defensive] line that they propose all the time.
“He was unlucky, of course, not to score two or three because in normal circumstances that would have been the case.”
Bukayo Saka’s equaliser at least ensured Arsenal avoided defeat in the first leg and that was a fifth goal since Christmas for the 19-year-old.
The Gunners have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six games, though, and it is hard to see that streak ending against the leaders.
Looking at the Arsenal vs Man City odds, a City win and over 3.5 goals appeals at 11/4 and would have paid out in four of City’s last five away games.
Last Arsenal line-up: Leno, Bellerin, Gabriel, Saka, Soares, Luiz, Ceballos, Odegaard, Smith Rowe, Xhaka, Aubameyang.
A Look At Manchester City’s Betting Odds
City continue to add records to their collection as their winning run continues, with the latest being a 3-1 victory at Everton on Wednesday.
Phil Foden’s opener was quickly cancelled out by Richarlison but second-half goals from Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva powered City 10 points clear at the top of the table.
It also made City the first English top-flight side to begin a calendar year with 10 straight league wins, not that Guardiola is counting.
“It is nice but like I said many times, sport doesn’t wait,” he said when asked about the record.
“The next target is Arsenal. Today we enjoy it and celebrate but tomorrow afternoon we start to think about Arsenal.”
Worryingly for City’s rivals, their squad is now getting stronger. Kevin De Bruyne made his first appearance in almost a month at Everton as a late substitute while Guardiola gave a positive update on Ilkay Gundogan’s groin problem.
“He is much, much better,” Guardiola said. “It is not a big issue but to avoid risk we have given him a few more days to recover. But for Arsenal and Borussia Monchengladbach he should be ready.”
Raheem Sterling is also in fine form, with five goals in his last eight outings, and has a good record in this fixture.
The England international has scored in four of the last five meetings, opening the scoring three times, so let’s take a chance on Sterling to score first in a 3-1 win at 40/1 as our final Arsenal vs Man City prediction.
Last Man City line-up: Ederson, Walker, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo, Rodri, Silva, Sterling, Jesus, Mahrez, Foden.
Benfica 1-1 ARSENAL – Bukayo Saka
Everton 1-3 MAN CITY – Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva
Head-to-head: Arsenal 1-4 Man City, Man City 1-0 Arsenal, Arsenal 2-0 Man City, Man City 3-0 Arsenal, Arsenal 0-3 Man City, Man City 3-1 Arsenal
