Kick-off: 2000, 27/01/2023

Stadium: Etihad Stadium

Manchester City and Arsenal put their Premier League title ambitions on hold and meet for the first time this season in the FA Cup on Friday night.

The Gunners are the favourites in the Premier League outright winner odds but head to Manchester as the underdogs for the fourth-round tie, having lost their last five meetings with City.

City’s strength in depth and home advantage could give them the edge again in what should be an entertaining contest so City to win or draw and over 2.5 goals at 21/20 is our opening Man City vs Arsenal prediction.

Manchester City Odds

Both teams head into the FA Cup tie on the back of important wins at the weekend for different reasons.

In City’s case, the 3-0 triumph against Wolves featuring Erling Haaland’s fourth hat-trick of the season was the perfect response to their manager’s midweek complaints.

Pep Guardiola had delivered a passionate rant about his side’s recent performances after City needed to fight back from 2-0 down to beat Tottenham.

“Today we improved but it was just today, we will see what happens in the next games,” said Guardiola after the Wolves game.

“People will see the goals from Erling, the assists from Kevin (De Bruyne) and the actions from Riyad (Mahrez) but there are things still to improve.”

Facing Arsenal should help focus minds and with City suffering a surprise quarter-final exit in the Carabao Cup, Guardiola will be determined not to be eliminated from the FA Cup at such an early stage.

It is the options off the bench which could prove decisive and City have won the second half in three of the last four meetings by a combined score of 7-0.

Looking at the 10/3.

Arsenal Odds

Arsenal are five points clear at the top of the Premier League and winning the title will be their main focus between now and the end of the season.

It could even be argued that an early FA Cup exit would not be the worst thing that could happen in the long run, although they will be keen to maintain the momentum which was helped by Eddie Nketiah’s late winner in the 3-2 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

Boss Mikel Arteta was previously assistant to Guardiola at City and believes they are still the team that everyone else has to catch.

“We know our reality, we know still how much we have to improve, we know what’s taken us to the position we are today and we have to reinforce that every day,” he said.

“I know where we are, I know why we are here and I know where we want to be and we are far from that.

“I know the levels of the other teams and one especially that has won in the last five or six years and we are not there yet.”

There is a sense that this fixture will mean more to City and a 3-1 home win at 11/1 completes our Man City vs Arsenal betting tips.
