New York Red Bulls vs Toronto FC prediction & odds

Kick-off: 1900 EDT, 18/06/2022

Stadium: Red Bull Arena

TV: TSN/ESPN+

New York Red Bulls have won just one of their last six games, but they can get back on track when they take on lowly Toronto at the weekend.

The Canadians ended a six-match winless run against bottom-of-the-table Chicago Fire in their last outing before the international break three weeks ago, although they were trailing with 20 minutes to go and are yet to win away from home this season.

Their last trip to the Big Apple resulted in a 5-4 defeat against defending champions City, so a home win and both teams to score at 3.0 is our first New York Red Bulls vs Toronto FC prediction.

The Red Bulls once again blew the chance to go top of the Eastern Conference last weekend when they suffered from the new-coach bump as Christian Lattanzio masterminded Charlotte’s 2-0 victory in the searing heat of the Bank of America Stadium.

Lattanzio was appointed interim manager after the dismissal of Miguel Angel Ramirez at the end of May and he made a great start as goals from Ben Bender and Derrick Jones sealed a sixth home win in seven for the hosts.

It was a disappointing result for Gerhard Struber’s side, who had beaten the same opposition 3-1 in the Open Cup a couple of weeks ago.

Struber said: “I think we struggled sometimes to find the right trigger moments against their possession. I will not talk about the turf or the atmosphere. In a game like this, we need every player at their personal (limit) and I did not see this today.”

However, Struber welcomes back defender Aaron Long and midfielder Cristian Casseres Jr from international duty on Saturday.

Long scored and Lewis Morgan hit a hat-trick in a 4-1 win against Toronto in the second match of the season, when all five goals were scored in the first half.

At least two goals in the opening 45 minutes is New York Red Bulls vs Toronto FC odds this time.

Toronto FC odds Odds

Toronto were fortunate to end their winless streak last time out in a rollercoaster 3-2 victory over the Fire, who outshot the Canadians 33-5, nine of which were on target.

Deandre Kerr gave Toronto a 1-0 lead at the interval but the hosts found themselves behind midway through the second half, only for Alejandro Pozuelo to level from the penalty spot and then score the winner on his return from injury.

Bob Bradley’s men have been strong at home but woeful on the road this season and their recent record against the Red Bulls does not offer much encouragement, losing four and drawing two of the last six meetings.

There have been goals at both ends in the first half in four of their seven away games this season and a fifth looks good value at 4.6 as one of our New York Red Bulls vs Toronto FC betting tips.
