Huddersfield vs Leeds: Whites to reclaim bragging rights

Kick-off: 1230, 07/12/2019

Stadium: John Smith’s Stadium

TV: Sky Sports

This West Yorkshire rivalry is renewed on Saturday lunchtime when Championship high-flyers Leeds make the short trip to neighbours Huddersfield.

The Terriers claimed the bragging rights two years ago when they did the double over their rivals on the way to promotion to the Premier League but they are 5/1 to extend their winning run in this fixture.

It is the Whites who are on course for the top flight this time and United to win and both teams to score at 27/10 is our opening Huddersfield vs Leeds prediction.

A Look At Huddersfield Town’s Betting Odds

Huddersfield have enjoyed something of a revival under Danny Cowley but a run of four matches without a win has left them still looking nervously over their shoulders towards the relegation zone.

They suffered their biggest defeat of the season last weekend with a 5-2 hammering at Bristol City, which was the fourth successive Town game in which both teams have scored.

Karlan Grant is fourth in the Championship goalscorers’ chart with 11 to his name while Juninho Bacuna has chipped in with five so Huddersfield clearly carry a goal threat and have only failed to score in one of their last 12 matches.

Their problems are in defence, not helped by the fact that three of their first-choice back four have been out injured recently.

Trevoh Chalobah is also suspended while Fraizer Campbell and Terence Kongolo went off injured at Bristol so Cowley’s options off the bench could be limited.

The Terriers rarely end matches well, scoring just two goals in the last 15 minutes this season, while Leeds often come good late on.

Backing them to score the most goals between 75 and 90 minutes would have paid out in three of their last five games while their final goal against Middlesbrough last week came in the 73rd minute.

With that in mind, let’s back Leeds to score the most goals in that period once more at 2/1 in the Huddersfield vs Leeds odds.

A Look At Leeds United’s Betting Odds

The Championship title race is threatening to become a two-horse affair with the chasing pack struggling to keep up with West Brom and Leeds.

Both teams have enjoyed five straight wins and Marcelo Bielsa’s men are now five points clear of third-placed Fulham.

With West Brom not in action until Sunday, Leeds have the chance to put pressure on the Baggies if they can come out on top in a fixture which they have lost for the last three meetings.

Last time it was Michael Hefele who grabbed a late winner for Huddersfield but much has changed at both clubs since then and there seems little chance of Bielsa and Cowley having the sort of bust-up that David Wagner and Garry Monk had on the touchline after Hefele’s goal.

Another tight game could be in store, though, with Leeds having rarely blown teams away prior to last week’s 4-0 thrashing of Middlesbrough.

Half of their 12 wins have been by a one-goal margin while two of their last four games have ended 2-1 to the Whites so another 2-1 win at 31/4 completes our Huddersfield vs Leeds betting tips.
