Denmark vs Finland: Home help favours Danes

Kick-off: 1700, 12/06/21

Stadium: Parken, Copenhagen

TV: BBC One

Denmark are playing all their group matches on home soil and have a wonderful opportunity to make a winning start when they host Finland in Copenhagen.

The Danes will be keen to seize on any nerves from their Nordic neighbours, who are making their debut at a major finals.

Facing the Danes in their capital city looks a tough ask first up and a home win to nil at 19/20 is our opening Denmark vs Finland prediction.

A Look At Denmark’s Betting Odds

Denmark were unbeaten in Copenhagen during their qualifying campaign. They had to settle for a 1-1 draw against the Republic of Ireland in their first home match but won their next three, scoring 12 goals in the process and conceding just one.

The Danes have faced Finland on a regular basis in friendlies but this is their first competitive meeting since the qualifying stage for the 1988 European Championship, when Denmark won 1-0 both home and away.

Denmark have lost just one of their previous 22 meetings with the Finns but goals are usually in short supply, with under 2.5 goals paying out in seven of their last 10 contests.

They look short of the firepower needed to trouble the top teams and star man Christian Eriksen has not had the best of seasons at Inter Milan.

Looking at the Denmark vs Finland odds, under 2.5 goals is available at 8/13 but we’ll also add in a Denmark win at the bigger price of 7/4 for our selections.

Kasper Hjulmand’s side did well in warm-up friendlies, drawing 1-1 with Germany and then beating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0.

A Look At Finland’s Betting Odds

Finland will certainly not be lacking in enthusiasm as they finally make their debut at a major tournament after 31 previous failed attempts to reach a World Cup or European Championship.

They do not have far to travel for their opening game either, although that short distance has not done them any favours in the past as they are without a win in Copenhagen since 1949.

Norwich striker Teemu Pukki was key to them qualifying, scoring 10 of their 16 goals and providing one assist, but his hectic schedule for club and country could now take its toll.

Pukki faced a race against time to recover from an ankle injury and only managed to feature in the final warm-up friendly.

Those prep games do not augur well either, with Finland losing 2-0 to Sweden and then going down 1-0 to Estonia.

Against the outsiders to qualify from Group B, we expect the Danes to settle for a routine 2-0 win at 19/4 as our final Denmark vs Finland prediction.
