Premier League relegation odds: Magpies are almost safe

Newcastle have been eased out to 14/1 in bwin’s Premier League relegation odds after Saturday’s dramatic 3-2 win over West Ham at St James’ Park.

The Magpies surrendered a 2-0 lead but then claimed a crucial victory when Arsenal loanee Joe Willock put them back in front for good on 82 minutes.

Willock told NUFC TV: “It’s massive and I saw the teams’ fixtures below us and they are not easy fixtures they’re going into, so hopefully it breeds even more confidence in the lads.

“Hopefully, we can continue like this and be safe. We knew we had to get a win, so I’m happy that I could help the team again.”

Fulham have been cut to just 1/7 for a quick return to the Championship following a heart-breaking 1-1 draw at Arsenal.

The Cottagers appeared on course for a first-ever away win over the Gunners following Josh Maja’s second-half penalty.

But Eddie Nketiah came off the bench to score a last-gasp equaliser, leaving Scott Parker’s side six points from safety with only five games left to play.

Fulham had previously lost to a last-minute goal against Wolves and Parker admitted: “Of course, we are disappointed, I’m gutted.

“The last two weeks have been a real kick in terms of that but, as always, you get up tomorrow morning, gloves back on, keep fighting and go again.”

Clarets still have work to do

Burnley are fourth from bottom and 6/1 in bwin’s Premier League relegation odds after going down 3-1 away to Manchester United.

James Tarkowski quickly cancelled out Mason Greenwood’s opener but late strikes from Greenwood and Edinson Cavani kept the Clarets looking over their shoulders.

Sean Dyche said: “Overall, I was pleased. At 1-1, I think we’re seeing the game out well and we might have a chance of nicking one because it looked like that type of game.

“But they get one out the blue and you’re scratching your head at that stage because I thought we were handling the game very well.”

Burnley have a game in hand over Fulham but still have to visit Craven Cottage early next month.

Dyche added: “The mentality in training is very good, the performance was very good, we’ve got to keep showing that in these remaining games.”

Brighton are level on points with Burnley but have played another game less and can be backed at 40/1 in this market.

Sheffield United are already doomed after losing 1-0 at Wolves and West Brom are 1/50 to fall, despite back-to-back wins over Chelsea and Southampton.

With six games remaining, the Blades have suffered the joint-earliest relegation in Premier League history, alongside Ipswich, Derby and Huddersfield.

Captain John Egan told SUTV: “There are no excuses or bickering. It’s about performances on the pitch, they relate to points and we haven’t got enough this season.

“I feel like I’m saying the same things a lot of times this season. We’re very disappointed. The writing has been on the wall for a while and we’re all gutted.”
