What Trueform says for Aston Villa vs Birmingham

Aston Villa have had a patchy Championship campaign but go into Sunday’s derby with Birmingham buoyed by a couple of rock-solid victories.

Dean Smith’s side were fully expected to see off Bolton on home turf, but a 3-0 success at Derby really was a statement of intent.

With the Blues having recently lost 3-1 to the Rams, the hosts are a form pick at 4/5 for our initial Aston Villa vs Birmingham prediction.

A Look At Aston Villa’s Betting Odds

Smith made it three wins in five games as Villa boss when John McGinn, Tammy Abraham and Conor Hourihane hit the target at Pride Park.

The feeling is the midlands outfit are now fully up to speed with the former Brentford manager’s game-plan and can continue to climb up the table.

“Not all teams play the way Derby do – you have to come up with different ways to beat different teams,” Smith told BBC WM. “But the lads have upped the tempo to make themselves better.

“This result was down to what they’ve been doing in training. We’ve been working really hard every day.”

The international break was an unwelcome distraction for the new head coach but we’re backing Villa to pick up where they left off.

Looking at the Aston Villa vs Birmingham odds, we reckon 19/10 for the hosts to score in both halves is a decent bet.

A Look At Birmingham City’s Betting Odds

To be fair to Birmingham, that loss at Derby referred to above was their only defeat in the last 13 matches.

However, the Blues again looked fragile in defence when drawing 3-3 at home to Hull next time out, with Garry Monk needing a Che Adams hat-trick to save the day.

“You can have bad games or under-perform, but you need to be able to do your job and the simple basics,” moaned Monk. “We didn’t get that in the second half and it cost us.”

City, who rattled off four straight wins in October, do still look good going forward, but may again be exposed at the back here.

Let’s complete our Aston Villa vs Birmingham betting tips by going with 14/5 for a home win and both teams to score.
