Millwall vs Fulham: Cottagers can tame Lions

Kick-off: 1945, 17/08/2021

Stadium: The Den

TV: Sky Sports

Fulham showed why they are favourites to top the Championship table with a big win at Huddersfield and can follow up at Millwall.

The Lions have kicked off their campaign with a couple of draws and will put up a fight, but the Cottagers have the class to come through.

We’re happy to take 27/20 for an away win in this London derby for our first Millwall vs Fulham prediction.

A Look At Millwall’s Betting Odds

Millwall drew 1-1 at QPR in their opening league match and Saturday’s home clash with Blackburn ended up the same score.

Jed Wallace finished off a fine move to put the Lions ahead against Rovers on 64 minutes, but Ben Brereton headed in an equaliser.

Gary Rowett said: “We’ve had 60 per cent possession and we’ve had about 18 shots, while they’ve had about one shot and they score with it, so it’s a frustrating game.

“They sat off and allowed us to try and see whether we can open them up and I thought we looked comfortable, without maybe having that little extra bit of zip about us to open those spaces.

“When we got the ball to our wing-backs, when we got good balls into box, when we attacked with a little bit more quality, I thought we got into some really good areas.

“We scored a very good goal and then we should see the game out.”

This promises to be a different kind of test, though, with Fulham expected to have a much bigger share of the ball.

Looking at the 17/4 for an away win and both teams to score.

A Look At Fulham’s Betting Odds

Fulham have managed to retain a strong squad since being relegated from the Premier League, aided by rich American owners and a parachute payment.

They were held to a draw by Middlesbrough first up but made a statement of intent when romping to a 5-1 victory at Huddersfield.

Aleksandar Mitrovic, Josh Onomah and Fabio Carvalho struck in the first half to give the Cottagers a 3-1 interval lead.

Harry Wilson’s 72nd-minute dismissal marred the win a touch, but Ivan Cavaleiro netted twice late on for the 10 men.

“We were the better team and deserved the three points,” said Marco Silva. “We didn’t get what we deserved last week, but we did this week.

“It was a fair result at the end and the players performed well. We prepared well for the game and controlled the game well. There are plenty of positives.”

Huddersfield have been rocked by Covid issues, but that was still a convincing performance from Fulham.

This should be a tougher test, but 9/1 for the visitors to prevail 2-1 completes our Millwall vs Fulham betting tips.
