Home advantage could prove crucial when Vancouver entertain San Jose at BC Place on Saturday, judged on the records of both teams this term.
Each has performed with credit in front of their own fans but they have failed to pick up a single point between them on the road so far.
That makes 2.1 for the hosts to prevail here a percentage pick for our first Vancouver Whitecaps vs San Jose Earthquakes prediction.
Vancouver Whitecaps Odds
Vancouver received a bit of help from the match officials when beating Toronto 1-0 here last weekend.
Thomas Hasal saved Alejandro Pozuelo’s first-half penalty and the Reds had what looked like a legal goal ruled out for an alleged foul on the keeper after 66 minutes.
Vanni Sartini’s side eventually capitalised on that reprieve when Lucas Cavallini made a great run down the left and set up Tosaint Ricketts for a last-gasp tap-in.
“I’m very happy that the protagonists of the win have been guys that came off the bench to remind everyone that the group is the leader,” Sartini told the club website.
The Whitecaps have been hampered by injuries and Hasal had to leave the field early last weekend, but their home form has still been solid.
After a goalless stalemate with New York City at this venue, Kansas City were edged out 1-0 and Portland only just scraped a 3-2 success.
Looking at the Vancouver Whitecaps vs San Jose Earthquakes odds, we feel 3.7 for another home win to nil is fair value.
San Jose Earthquakes Odds
San Jose have enjoyed an upturn in fortunes since parting company with Matias Almeyda and promoting reserve-team coach Alex Covelo.
The Quakes were winless before that move but then came from 3-1 down to shade Seattle 4-3 thanks to a stoppage-time penalty.
Last Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Colorado made it two out of three for Covelo, with Nathan deftly poking in a well-worked short corner.
Covelo told the club website: “They are improving step by step and memorising the concepts that we want for the team.”
Goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski added: “I think the guys have done a great job during the transition. It’s definitely not easy.
“I think things are now a little more structured, a little more ‘less-is-more’ approach, I would say. I think this is a good indication of how we’ll play moving forward.”
However, San Jose were beaten 3-0 at New York City in between those home wins and have lost all four away games, failing to score in three of them.
This has all the makings of being a cagey contest, but we’re going for a 1-0 win to the hosts at 8.0 in our Vancouver Whitecaps vs San Jose Earthquakes betting tips.
