Real Salt Lake will be seeking revenge for a heart-breaking 2-1 loss in Vancouver a couple of months ago when going down to a stoppage-time penalty.
A change in venue could well do the trick as RSL have been strong at Rio Tinto Stadium this term while the Whitecaps do not have a good away record.
We like 2.65 for a home win by more than one clear goal for our first Real Salt Lake vs Vancouver Whitecaps prediction.
Real Salt Lake Odds
Real Salt Lake are fifth in the Western Conference following a 2-1 win at Seattle last time out.
Sergio Cordova’s first-half opener was cancelled out by Albert Rusnak on 62 minutes but Andrew Brody soon restored the advantage.
Head coach Pablo Mastroeni is now hoping his side can rediscover the home form which saw them start the season with WWDWWWWDDW results at Rio Tinto Stadium.
More recently, RSL have lost to Dallas and Los Angeles here but Mastroeni believes those setbacks were just temporary blips.
He told the club website: “There’s some losses where you look at performances and you think, ‘We have a long way to go,’ but in the last few games, particularly at home, we’ve played extremely well and just haven’t been able to capitalise.
“So, when we do our video review, it’s really pointing out how close we are to getting results.”
Reflecting on the Seattle success, Mastroeni added: “It really evoked some of the emotions that we had early on in the year where the guys stood arm-in-arm and did whatever was necessary to come away with the three points.”
Only three teams in the whole league have conceded more goals on the road than Vancouver this season, so this looks a good chance to give the home fans plenty to cheer about.
A fast start would help and 2.55 for RSL to lead at half-time and full-time appeals from the Real Salt Lake vs Vancouver Whitecaps odds.
Vancouver Whitecaps Odds
Vancouver are four points behind RSL in seventh after beating Colorado 2-1 in midweek, albeit having played a game more.
Ryan Gauld hit a first-half double at BC Place and the Rapids could only reply once through Gyasi Zardes after the break, although he did hit the woodwork in time added on.
That result was a good one for our followers, with three successful selections featured in our match preview.
Gauld was frustrated at not completing a hat-trick and head coach Vanni Sartini told The Record: “We played 70 minutes of fantastic soccer.
“The only missing piece was not scoring the third goal. It would have been our fault for not scoring the third goal.
“When you don’t kill an opponent when you have the possibility to kill it, everything stays open. We need to be more clinical when we have the possibility to score.”
A bigger problem for Sartini to solve is Vancouver’s travel sickness, with only nine of their 33 points picked up on the road, having gone down 5-2 at LA Galaxy last weekend.
RSL won this corresponding fixture 3-1 last season and 12.0 for a repeat of that scoreline completes our Real Salt Lake vs Vancouver Whitecaps betting tips.
