Kick-off:  2000, 18/09/2022

Real Madrid have enjoyed a perfect start to the season but face their toughest test so far when they meet city rivals Atletico in the Madrid derby.

Wednesday’s Champions League victory over RB Leipzig made it eight wins from eight in all competitions if we include the European Super Cup.

Their neighbours would love to be the ones to halt the winning run but an away win at 8/5 is our opening Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid prediction.

Atletico Madrid Odds

Atletico have not been able to match the consistency of their city rivals and have already lost 2-0 at home to Villarreal in La Liga and drawn 1-1 at Real Sociedad.

They also come into the big game on the back of a defeat following their 2-0 loss at Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Diego Simeone’s men have now gone four games without a clean sheet and have not been helped by injuries.

Goalkeeper Jan Oblak and centre-back Jose Maria Gimenez have both missed the last two matches and it remains to be seen whether either will be fit enough to feature this weekend.

Thomas Lemar, Stefan Savic and Sergio Reguilon were also absent in midweek but regardless of who is available, a low-scoring game looks likely.

Under 2.5 goals has paid out in the last seven Madrid derbies so Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid odds.

Real Madrid Odds

Real had a quiet summer in the transfer market but if ain’t broke it, don’t try to fix it!

They have made an impressive start to the defence of both their La Liga and Champions League crowns and have scored at least two goals in every match.

Star striker Karim Benzema has been absent for the last two games after being injured during the first half of the 3-0 win at Celtic but he has not been missed, with four different players getting on the scoresheet in last weekend’s 4-1 victory over Mallorca.

Madrid have been particularly strong in the second half, scoring 10 goals without reply after the break in La Liga.

They have been drawing at half-time in their last five matches before taking control in the second half so Draw HT/Real Madrid FT at 21/4 completes our Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid betting tips.
