Manchester United produced their most complete performance for several years when beating Tottenham and will be hard to beat at Chelsea if in the same mood.
The Blues have gone seven games without losing but were far from convincing at Aston Villa and Brentford in their last couple of matches.
With these teams having drawn four straight head-to-head encounters, 13/5 for another Stamford Bridge stalemate is our opening Chelsea vs Man Utd prediction.
Chelsea Odds
Chelsea had Kepa Arrizabalaga to thank for a 2-0 away win over Villa and he was again on song in Wednesday’s goalless draw at Brentford.
The keeper did well to save two headers from Ivan Toney and another from Bryan Mbeumo in a hard-fought west London derby.
Cesar Azpilicueta, Kai Havertz, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Christian Pulisic went close at the other end.
However, Blues boss Graham Potter said: “I thought over the course of the game a point was fair; they had chances, we had chances.
“We pushed and pushed at the end but they make it hard for you. They do what they do really well. Full respect to them.
“The positives are a clean sheet and a point. Four points from two away matches is positive and we have to move on.”
Chelsea are unbeaten in six home matches this term and won the last couple 3-0 against AC Milan and Wolves.
There have been score draws versus Tottenham and RB Salzburg, though, while Leicester and West Ham were only shaded 2-1.
Looking at the Chelsea vs Man Utd odds, we think 6/1 for 1-1 stands out, with that being the score in both meetings last term.
Last Chelsea line-up: Kepa, Chalobah, Koulibaly, Azpilicueta, Cucurella, Jorginho, Loftus-Cheek, Mount, Gallagher, Havertz, Broja.
Conor Gallagher is expected to shake off illness in time to feature. N’Golo Kante, Reece James and Wesley Fofana are longer-term absentees for the hosts.
Manchester United Odds
United have responded well to their derby debacle, enjoying four wins in a five-match unbeaten stretch.
The Red Devils couldn’t quite break down Newcastle on Sunday but took out their frustration on Spurs in a dominant 2-0 victory.
Admittedly, there was a touch of good fortune about Fred’s deflected opener and a bobbling ball fell nicely for Bruno Fernandez to curl in the second.
However, anything other than a home win would have been a travesty as United outplayed Tottenham throughout and had 28 attempts on goal.
“It was a magnificent performance from all the 11 players,” beamed Erik ten Hag. “It was a performance also from the subs that came on. It was a squad performance.
“What we have seen today was 11 players who defend, 11 players who attack, there was a lot of dynamic. I am pleased with that.
“I enjoyed the performance. I think it was the best team performance so far this season, so you see a team developing.
“We are celebrating this victory and now we have to recover from this and we have a big game against Chelsea; the Premier League is so exciting.”
Consistency is now the key to United getting back in the top four, which they will achieve if winning in London to leapfrog Chelsea.
Fernandes was much more positive in his play and general demeanour during Wednesday’s impressive performance.
Let’s finish off our Chelsea vs Man Utd betting tips by taking 14/5 for the Portugal ace to score at any time.
Last United line-up: De Gea, Martinez, Varane, Dalot, Shaw, Fernandes, Fred, Casemiro, Rashford, Antony, Sancho.
Cristiano Ronaldo will miss out as punishment for refusing to come on as a substitute against Tottenham. Fellow forward Anthony Martial remains absent with a back complaint. Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams have been training this week after injury.
