Newcastle and Fulham are both riding the crest of a wave at present but preference is for the Magpies when they meet at St James’ Park.
United prevailed 4-1 at Craven Cottage back in October and the Cottagers have tended to come unstuck when taking on teams above them in the table.
They have also lost to Arsenal, Tottenham and both Manchester clubs, going down 2-1 on each occasion.
The formbook suggests 21/10 for a home win and both teams to score is the way to go with our first Newcastle vs Fulham prediction.
Newcastle United Odds
Newcastle suffered a rare blip when upset by Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup but quickly bounced back with a 2-0 win over Leicester to reach the EFL Cup semis.
Blyth-born defender Dan Burn scored his first goal for the club on the hour mark and Joelinton made it safe 12 minutes later.
The Magpies hadn’t made it as far as the last four of any competition since 2005 but Burn insisted the focus will switch straight back to the Premier League.
He said: “We’ve not got to get distracted with it, we’ve got lots of important league games coming up and we’re still fighting to try to stay up there.”
Rejuvenated United are on course for a top-four finish after suffering just one top-flight loss all season – and that was a stoppage-time sickener away to Liverpool.
Eddie Howe’s side have a nice blend of technical ability and physical power, which gives them different ways to get the job done.
Callum Wilson has a good record against the Cottagers, both for United and Bournemouth, so 3/1 for him to net first appeals from the Newcastle vs Fulham odds.
He has netted in both of his appearances against the London outfit for the Magpies and previously bagged a brace at Craven Cottage for the Cherries.
Last Newcastle line-up: Pope, Trippier, Botman, Schar, Burn, Willock, Longstaff, Guimaraes, Joelinton, Wilson, Almiron.
Newcastle will make a late decision on midfielder Joelinton following his arrest for drink driving. Defenders Emil Krafth (knee) and Matt Targett (heel) and midfielder Jonjo Shelvey (calf) are still out.
Fulham Odds
Fulham reached the dizzy heights of sixth place after beating west London rivals Chelsea 2-1 on Thursday night to make it five straight wins in all competitions.
Kalidou Koulibaly cancelled out Willian’s opener but the Cottagers received a boost when Joao Felix was dismissed for a reckless challenge.
Carlos Vinicius’ 73rd-minute header secured the win for Fulham and only their second victory over Chelsea since 1979, giving us a 21/2 correct score pay-out in our match preview.
“Overall, I think it was a great night for our fans and they deserve it,” declared manager Marco Silva.
“Sixteen years without a win in this game and Chelsea’s superiority in these type of games has been huge.
“We know they have completely different goals to ourselves, they are a massive club and their budget is completely different.
“We cannot compare anything but we knew that on the pitch, with our work, with our strategy, with our identity, we could balance a bit more things and we did it.”
Getting talismanic striker Aleksandar Mitrovic back from a one-match suspension can only enhance Fulham’s feelgood factor here.
A series of narrow defeats against the top five remains a big concern, though.
Let’s add 5/2 for a home win by any one-goal margin to our Newcastle vs Fulham betting tips, along with the customary 2-1 scoreline at 7/1.
Last Fulham line-up: Leno, Tete, Adarabioyo, Ream, Robinson, Reed, Decordova-Reid, Pereira, Willian, Palhinha, Carlos Vinicius.
Defender Shane Duffy was absent through illness against Chelsea and continues to be assessed, left-back Antonee Robinson is banned and midfielder Neeskens Kebano (Achilles) is a long-term absentee.
