Brighton are unbeaten against bottom-half teams this season and can improve that record when they host struggling Newcastle on Saturday evening.
Albion now look a class above the weaker teams in the Premier League but are still not the most ruthless in front of goal.
They are yet to score more than two goals in a game so a home win and under 3.5 total goals is our opening Brighton vs Newcastle prediction at 13/10.
A Look At Brighton and Hove Albion’s Betting Odds
Brighton have failed to win any of their last five matches but last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Liverpool must have felt as good as a victory.
The Seagulls looked in danger of a heavy defeat when they conceded twice in the first 24 minutes at Anfield.
The momentum changed though when Enock Mwepu scored his first Premier League goal just before half-time and Leandro Trossard’s 65th-minute equaliser was the least Brighton deserved.
Such an impressive result represents continued progress this season and Albion’s 16-point tally from 10 games is six more than at the same stage last season.
Head coach Graham Potter said: “They believe in each other and that’s a fantastic thing. We’ve had a challenging but good week.
“We haven’t got the results we wanted but the performances have been really good. We like the direction it’s going in but we’ve got to keep improving.”
Three of Brighton’s four wins have been by a one-goal margin and we’re not expecting them to go goal crazy here so a home win by exactly one goal appeals at 12/5 in the Brighton vs Newcastle odds.
Last Brighton line-up: Sanchez, Cucurella, Dunk, Duffy, Veltman, Bissouma, Mwepu, Lallana, Moder, March, Trossard.
Brighton will check on the fitness of Dan Burn after a knee injury. Aaron Connolly (heel) should return to the squad, although Danny Welbeck (hamstring) and Steven Alzate (ankle) remain out.
A Look At Newcastle United’s Betting Odds
Newcastle remain without a Premier League win this season and are already six points from safety after last week’s 3-0 defeat at home to Chelsea.
The Magpies gave their all for interim boss Graeme Jones but they have equalled their longest winless run at the beginning of a top-flight season of 10 games (1898 and 2018).
Newcastle were penned inside their own half for most of the match and fans will be hoping the new owners can attract some significant signings in January to boost the club’s relegation fight.
Jones said: “We couldn’t release that first pass. Why? Because Chelsea are an outstanding counter-pressing team. But the mentality was there to try and do that, definitely.
“That doesn’t come overnight and maybe against lesser opposition we would have released that first pass and would have been a little bit more effective.”
Newcastle had scored in their seven previous matches so could cause some problems for Brighton but only Manchester City and Liverpool have scored more than one goal against Potter’s men this season.
Let’s back Albion for a 2-1 victory at 29/4 as the last of our Brighton vs Newcastle betting tips.
Last Newcastle line-up: Darlow, Clark, Lascelles, Krafth, Manquillo, Ritchie, Hayden, Fraser, Longstaff, Wilson, Saint-Maximin.
Paul Dummett is Newcastle’s only absentee. The defender continues his recovery from a calf problem.
