Kick-off: 1730, 13/08/2022

Stadium: Brentford Community Stadium

Manchester United began the new season in just as much disarray as they finished last term and are hard to back at Brentford.

The Bees kicked off with a brave draw at Leicester and look more settled than when well beaten twice by the Red Devils in their debut Premier League campaign.

We reckon 3.4 for these teams to share the spoils is a value bet in our first Brentford vs Man Utd prediction.

Brentford Odds

Brentford were 2-0 down at King Power Stadium just after the break and it could have been worse at that point, with the Foxes also hitting the post.

However, Ivan Toney pulled one back with a close-range strike and substitute Josh Dasilva equalised on 86 minutes when curling in a superb left-foot shot from the edge of the area.

Wesley Fofana had headed against the woodwork for Leicester in between but the Bees also created another good chance which Toney headed wide.

“Such a big credit to the players’ mentality,” commented manager Thomas Frank. “This group of players, just wow!

“A lot of teams would have broken down and not got back into the game but we were running so hard. I think we looked fit.

“We were on top at the end of the game and then of course there’s a fairytale story for Josh, being out for 18 months.

“So pleased with a lot of things but a lot of things to work on.”

Toney top-scored for the Bees last term with 12 league goals, including one in this corresponding fixture.

He has the pace and power to cause problems again, so 3.3 for him to net at any time appeals from the Brentford vs Man Utd odds.

Last Brentford line-up: Raya, Hickey, Henry, Mee, Jansson, Norgaard, Jensen, Wissa, Mbeumo, Janelt, Toney.

Manchester United Odds

United started with good intent against Brighton and Bruno Fernandes should have done better with an early chance.

However, the defensive woes of last season resurfaced as Pascal Gross hit them with a double blow after half an hour and 39 minutes.

The second-half introduction of Cristiano Ronaldo gave the Red Devils a lift and a bungled own goal from an uncleared corner raised hopes of a comeback.

Not much happened over the closing 25 minutes, though, and Eric ten Hag’s reign got off to the worst possible start.

“It was unnecessary to lose this game,” said the Dutchman. “I think it was a good start and then we dropped down a level, dropped down in belief and we made mistakes and the opponent punished us.

“But I think it is a good opponent, they have worked long together and when you make mistakes you get punished for that against such teams.”

Talk of bringing in Marko Arnautovic and Adrien Rabiot smacks of panic buying but United certainly need some more help in the current window.

New boys Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen did show some promise, though, and Ronaldo should be fitter for that run-out.

In what could be an entertaining encounter, let’s add 4.1 for both teams to score in the first half to our Brentford vs Man Utd betting tips.

Last United line-up: De Gea, Maguire, Martinez, Dalot, Shaw, Fernandes, Eriksen, Fred, McTominay, Rashford, Sancho.
