Kick-off: 1930, 03/03/2023
Stadium: Westfalenstadion
Second hosts fourth in the Bundesliga on Friday night in a mouth-watering tie between two of the title contenders.
Borussia Dortmund start the night level on points with leaders Bayern Munich and four ahead of visitors Leipzig.
Both teams are in fine form but the visitors have a modest away record and a home win at 5/4 is our opening Borussia Dortmund vs RB Leipzig prediction.
Go for goals as form teams collide
Dortmund are the form team in Europe, let alone Germany, in 2023 given they are the only team in a top league on the continent to have won every competitive match this year.
They have enjoyed seven successive Bundesliga wins while also getting past Bochum in the cup and they hold a 1-0 lead against Chelsea after the first leg of their Champions League tie.
An eighth straight league win in one season will see them match the record of Jurgen Klopp’s title-winning team from the 2011-12 campaign.
Dortmund are unbeaten on home soil since August when they somehow threw away a 2-0 lead and conceded three late goals in a 3-2 defeat against Werder Bremen.
The goals have been flowing at the Westfalenstadion, with Freiburg and Stuttgart both conceding five goals here while Augsburg and Hertha Berlin have been hit for four.
Their last three Bundesliga matches here have produced 18 goals, which is not surprising given they average 17 shots per game since the winter break.
Edin Terzic’s men have failed to keep a clean sheet in the last three home games though so backing goals looks the way to go on Friday.
Looking at the Borussia Dortmund vs RB Leipzig odds, over 3.5 goals appeals at 29/20.
Away record counts against Leipzig
Dortmund may have reeled in Bayern at the summit but Leipzig are another of the teams in hot pursuit of the defending champions.
A 12-match unbeaten run from the start of October put them in contention before it ended with a 2-1 defeat at home to Union Berlin.
They have bounced back well from that setback with back-to-back wins against Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt, while a 1-1 draw with Manchester City in the Champions League showed what they are capable of.
Influential midfielder Christopher Nkunku is back from injury and has come off the bench as a second-half substitute in the last three matches so may not be fit enough to start.
It is Leipzig’s away form which is the slight concern though given they have only managed four wins on their travels from 11 league games.
There isn’t too much to choose between the two teams so a home win by exactly one goal is added to our selections at 3/1.
For punters looking for a bigger price in Borussia Dortmund vs RB Leipzig betting tips, a 3-2 home win is fancied at 18/1.
