Nice’s Europa Conference League quarter-final tie with Basel is in the balance following an entertaining 2-2 draw at St Jakob Park.
The French outfit are now favourites to progress with home advantage but FCB will come to play in the return fixture at Allianz Riviera.
We’re snapping up 93/100 for both teams to score as our top Nice vs Basel prediction.
Les Aiglons look too short
Zeki Amdouni calmly put Basel ahead from the penalty spot in Switzerland when sending Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way.
However, Tarem Moffi gave Nice a half-time lead with a double strike, the second being a spectacular overhead kick he claimed to have copied off Erling Haaland.
Amdouni was not to be outdone, though, and he headed in a Michael Lang cross on 71 minutes to level things up.
Marwin Hitz twice denied Gaetan Laborde a decider, while Schmeichel kept out a Dan Ndoye stoppage-time effort at the other end.
“The second goal was a special moment for myself and for the team,” beamed Moffi. “Goals like this don’t come often.
“To be honest, it’s not something you plan, it just happens. I saw Erling Haaland do it last weekend, so I said ‘Why not?'”
Nice have splashed the cash on some proven veterans over the past 12 months but are yet to look like a real team!
They only scraped through a tight group and are ninth in Ligue 1 after failing to win any of their last six domestic matches.
Four straight draws in France’s top flight were followed by losses to PSG and Stade Brest.
We’re not prepared to take a short price for the hosts and Nice vs Basel odds.
Amdouni on fire for FCB
Basel are also having a moderate domestic campaign, lying a distant fourth in the Swiss league, 17 points behind Young Boys.
However, they have only lost to the runaway leaders in their last 13 games in all competitions and drew 1-1 against them on Sunday.
Amdouni was again on target in that contest to make it 12 goals in 18 appearances for club and country, including two for Switzerland.
FCB have played some good football in this competition, only losing once during the group stage and picking up seven points from three road trips.
After edging out Trabzonspor 2-1 on aggregate in the play-off round, they beat Slovan Bratislava on penalties following a couple of 2-2 draws.
On the opening quarter-final encounter, Lang said: “It was a very good performance. We were dominant against a Nice team with lots of talented players.
“My feeling is that we would have deserved to win, so I’m not entirely happy with the result, but our performance can give us cause for optimism.”
They will give it a go in France and 7/2 for exciting prospect Amdouni to score at any time completes our Nice vs Basel betting tips.
