France will be hoping it is third time lucky against Denmark as they aim to make it two wins out of two in Group D at the World Cup.

The Danes did the Nations League double over the world champions in their two meetings earlier this year but France were more impressive in the first round of group games in Qatar.

The points were shared when the teams met at the World Cup four years ago too so the Danes to avoid defeat at 19/20 is our opening France vs Denmark prediction.

France Odds

Olivier Giroud equalled France’s all-time goalscoring record as his brace helped the holders recover from an early scare to make light work of Australia and begin their World Cup defence with a comfortable victory.

A number of injures rocked the France squad heading into the finals and they were stunned as Craig Goodwin opened the scoring on nine minutes before rallying to record a 4-1 win.

Adrien Rabiot levelled before setting up Giroud for his 50th France goal, Kylian Mpabbe heading in the third before Giroud struck again to level Thierry Henry’s record.

Even with Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Presnel Kimpembe, Christopher Nkunku and Paul Pogba all missing the finals through injury and Raphael Varane only fit enough for the bench, Les Bleus showed their tournament credentials.

They suffered another setback, though, when Lucas Hernandez went off with an injury which will rule him out of the rest of the tournament.

Those absentees could take their toll against better opposition and the goal they conceded against Australia means France have managed just one clean sheet in their last seven matches.

They have also conceded the first goal in four of their last five games so the Danes to score first at 7/4 looks a decent price in the France vs Denmark odds.

Denmark Odds

Denmark were seen as one of the dark horses in the World Cup betting having reached the semi-finals at the European Championship last summer.

They made a disappointing start, though, as they were held 0-0 by Tunisia – 20 places below them in FIFA’s world rankings in 30th spot – after taking a long time to hit their stride at the Education City Stadium in Doha.

Tunisia had the better of the opening hour and Issam Jebali had an effort disallowed for offside before Kasper Schmeichel denied him in a one-on-one situation with a smart save.

Denmark’s hopes of a stoppage-time penalty were scuppered when Mexican referee Cesar Ramos chose not to punish the ball striking Yassine Meriah’s arm.

Denmark head coach Kasper Hjulmand said: “We played too slowly and we were nervous.

“I’m happy with the pressure we put on at the end and, if we had scored, you would have said ‘that’s fine’. But we did not score and I am not satisfied.

“This result could have helped us but now it could be complicated.”

Another draw here would not be too problematic with Australia to come in the final game so a 1-1 draw at 6/1 completes our France vs Denmark betting tips.
