Calgary have enjoyed a couple of emphatic pre-season victories and can kick off the new CFL campaign by seeing off Montreal on home turf.
The visitors have been involved in two close encounters but after making some significant changes since last term, may need more time to hit top form.
We’re taking 1.91 for the hosts to win by more than 3.5 points on the spread as our first Calgary Stampeders vs Montreal Alouettes prediction.
Calgary Stampeders Odds
Calgary qualified for the playoffs for the 16th straight year in 2021, recovering from a shaky start to win six of their final seven regular-season games.
The Stampeders only went down 33-30 in overtime at Saskatchewan in the West Division semi-finals, so they have a solid platform to build on and are fifth favourites in the Grey Cup winner odds.
Dave Dickenson, who has claimed five Grey Cup triumphs as a player and a coach, is back for a sixth season in charge and that continuity is also encouraging.
Current quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell will be the on-field general for a 10th campaign, having led Calgary to 2014 and 2018 outright glory.
All that paves the way for another solid campaign and the Stampeders thrashed BC Lions 41-6 and Edmonton 37-7 in warm-up matches.
Dickenson was keen to play down the significance of those scorelines but has a good blend of proven veterans and hungry youngsters in his squad.
Looking at the Calgary Stampeders vs Montreal Alouettes odds, we like 4.6 for a home win by 7-12 points here.
Montreal Alouettes Odds
Montreal began pre-season with a 25-23 loss at Hamilton but then shaded a 27-26 success versus Ottawa in front of their own fans.
Last year’s 7-7 record was good enough for third place in the East, but the Alouettes went down 23-12 at Hamilton in the playoffs.
Some key personnel have moved on from the defensive side but big things are expected of former Syracuse linebacker Tyrell Richards after making him the top overall pick in the CFL draft.
General manager Danny Maciocia said: “When we saw him at the CFL evaluation camp, we knew right then and there that we were going to try and get our hands on the first pick overall and make sure that Tyler dons an Alouette uniform.
“Tyler is fast, strong and smart. We are convinced that he will contribute to our successes as of this year.”
Eight picks have been signed up and hopes are high for 2022, especially if keeping QB Vernon Adams Jr healthy this term.
However, a large number of changes have been exasperated by training camp disruptions due to a flu bug and this match may just come a bit too soon.
Let’s add 1.91 for the hosts to lead by more than 1.5 points at half-time to our Calgary Stampeders vs Montreal Alouettes betting tips.
