New Zealand vs Australia: Black Caps value for final joy

Start time: 1400, 14/11/2021

Stadium: Dubai International Cricket Stadium

TV: Sky Sports

New Zealand and Australia were both underdogs for their Twenty20 World Cup semi-finals, highlighting the unpredictable nature of this format.

Each side looked up against it during those matches until some big hitting late on turned things around, so the final really could go either way.

Given that view, 13/10 for the Kiwis to come out on top is rated a value bet for our first New Zealand vs Australia prediction.

New Zealand’s Odds

The Black Caps gained some revenge for their super-over loss to England in the 50-over World Cup final two years ago by edging out the Three Lions in Abu Dhabi.

Daryl Mitchell’s swashbuckling 72 not out from 47 balls helped New Zealand chase down 167 with five wickets and six balls to spare.

Devon Conway contributed a more conventional 46 and James Neesham weighed in with 27 from just 11 balls as the Kiwis overcame the early loss of star duo Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson.

New Zealand had earlier bounced back from losing their opener to Pakistan to qualify from the Super 12s with four wins in a row.

Tim Southee leads a disciplined bowling attack, having been given his full allotment in all six matches and is yet to concede 30 runs in an innings.

On facing arch-rivals Australia in the decider, Southee said: “We know they’re a dangerous side but it’s a final, anything can happen.

“I don’t think there’s any fear, we’ve played against some quality opposition throughout the tournament.”

Looking at the 17/10 for Southee to take at least two wickets.

Australia’s Odds

Australia stumbled to 96 for five in pursuit of 172 when facing a fired-up Pakistan outfit in front of a partisan crowd at this venue.

However, Marcus Stoinis (40 from 31 balls) and in particular Matthew Wade (41 from 17) performed an incredible rescue act with their unbeaten partnership.

Wade was dropped in the deep on 21 before going on to clinch victory thanks to three sixes in a row off Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Their success guaranteed a first-time winner will be crowned on Sunday and Wade said: “We’ve got nothing to lose. We’re going to go out there and do our absolute best.”

David Warner top-scored in that contest with 49 and has been Australia’s stand-out batter in this tournament, hitting 236 runs in six innings, 106 more than next best Aaron Finch.

That record suggests a saver on 5/2 for Warner to lead the way for his team again is worth adding to our New Zealand vs Australia betting tips.
