Arena: Canadian Tire Centre
Ottawa will hope to climb off the foot of the NHL standings when they welcome Colorado to the Canadian Tire Centre.
The Senators have had a forgettable start to the campaign but will try to build on their impressive 3-2 win over Carolina last time out.
However, the Avalanche responded to a heavy defeat by Toronto with a smooth victory over Montreal.
We think the visitors will bring the Sens back down to earth and like 2.2 for an away win and over 5.5 goals in our Ottawa Senators vs Colorado Avalanche predictions.
Ottawa Senators Odds
After launching the season with back-to-back victories on home ice, Ottawa have since lost eight out of nine at Canadian Tire Centre and the visit of a strong Colorado team is unlikely to buck that trend.
After winning two of their first three games, the Sens have since won just three of 18 and their struggles have seen them slip to the very bottom of the NHL standings.
Anton Forsberg made 47 saves to backstop the Senators to victory over the Hurricanes and they will again need elite-level goaltending to be in with a chance of stopping the Avalanche.
Centre Chris Tierney knows what Ottawa must do to back up the win over Carolina with another one on home ice.
He said: “Work hard. Do the little things right and try to feel good about ourselves after beating a really good team.”
However, we think the Avalanche to win by three goals at 4.50 is fair value from the NHL odds.
Colorado Avalanche Odds
Nazem Kadri’s impressive season continued with another point in Colorado’s 4-1 win over the Canadiens.
He now has 30 points in 20 games and is on pace to exceed his career-high 61 points with Toronto in the 2016-17 season and we like him to again be on the scoresheet.
The 8-3 defeat to Toronto may prove a blip in the road for Colorado, who with Nathan MacKinnon back in the line-up have numerous offensive weapons to worry most defences in the league.
Colorado to win the third period at 1.9 is a solid selection against what will likely be a tiring Ottawa defence.
Starting goaltender Darcy Kuemper’s upper-body injury is the main concern facing the Avalanche but they should still have too much for the Senators.
