Celtic could still be feeling sorry for themselves after a disappointing Champions League exit when visiting Partick in the Scottish League Cup.
Add on the fact that Thistle pushed the Hoops hard in two Premiership encounters at Firhill last season and the feeling is that we may get a tight tussle in this televised tie.
Partick were only edged out 1-0 here 12 months ago and led at half-time in January’s meeting, before ultimately succumbing 2-1.
They were also brave 3-2 losers at Parkhead in February, so 11/10 for the hosts with two goals start is our opening Partick vs Celtic prediction.
A Look At Partick Thistle’s Betting Odds
Alan Archibald had to do some wheeling and dealing in the free agency market after Partick’s relegation but the signs are that he has brought in some decent recruits.
Thistle began their League One campaign with a shaky 2-0 loss at Ayr, but recovered to beat Falkirk 2-1 at this venue.
They have also registered three wins out of four in this competition and crushed Stranraer 5-0 in the Challenge Cup in midweek.
This is obviously a much sterner test, but Partick go into the game with their tails up and ready to battle hard.
Looking at the Partick vs Celtic odds, we reckon 7/4 for the scores to be level at half-time is fair value.
A Look At Celtic’s Betting Odds
Celtic must recover from a miserable week which began with a surprise 1-0 loss at Hearts in Scotland’s top flight, a result which gave us a 19/4 pay-out on the Jambos to prevail and two other successful selections.
Brendan Rodgers then missed out on prime transfer target John McGinn to Aston Villa and received a blast from Dedryck Boyata’s agent over Fulham’s failed £9million bid for the defender.
Things went from bad to worse for the Hoops when a 2-1 loss to AEK Athens in Greece ended their hopes of reaching the Champions League group stage for a third straight year.
Celtic can still focus on the Europa League and the chance to complete a historic hat-trick of trebles on the domestic front.
However, we fear they may be below par here and have to scrape through, so 25/4 for a low-key 1-0 away victory completes our Partick vs Celtic betting tips.
Stranraer 0-5 PARTICK – Thomas O’Ware, Aidan Fitzpatrick (2), Andrea Mbuyi-Mutombo, Max Melbourne
AEK Athens 2-1 Celtic – Scott Sinclair
Head-to-head: Celtic 3-2 Partick, Partick 1-2 Celtic, Celtic 2-0 Partick, Partick 0-1 Celtic
