Kick-off: 1730, 30/09/2020

Stadium: Rodney Parade

TV: Sky Sports

Steve Bruce has made no secret of his desire to do well in the EFL Cup so it will be disappointing if Newcastle can’t brush aside Newport in round four.

County have enjoyed some good cup runs in recent years, but they were aided by a poor Rodney Parade pitch and vociferous home support.

Conditions are less conducive to causing upsets this season and 23/20 for United to win by more than one goal is our first Newport vs Newcastle prediction.

A Look At Newport County’s Betting Odds

Newport beat Leeds and drew with Tottenham here in the FA Cup in 2018, before knocking out Leicester and Middlesbrough the following year.

This term, the League Two outfit have already claimed a couple of Championship scalps in this competition, sending Swansea and Watford packing.

The Exiles are also doing well in their own division, being joint-top of the table on seven points from three games following Saturday’s 2-0 triumph at Bolton.

Tristan Abrahams has already netted five times after bagging both of those goals, while Padraig Amond and Ryan Taylor are proven performers up front.

County have gone six home games without failing to score, so may have their moments going forward.

However, we still favour Evens for an away win and over 2.5 goals in the game from the Newport vs Newcastle odds.

Last Newport line-up: Townsend, Haynes, Cooper, Demetriou, Shephard, Labadie, Dolan, Sheehan, Abrahams, Twine, Taylor.

A Look At Newcastle United’s Betting Odds

Newcastle had to focus on being resilient at the back when visiting Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.

Lucas Moura put Spurs ahead on 25 minutes, Son Heung-min hit the woodwork twice and Karl Darlow had to make a string of fine saves to keep the Magpies in contention.

However, their stubborn resistance paid off when a dubious handball decision allowed Callum Wilson to level from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

Bruce said of the late ruling: “We have got away with one and I should be delighted with it, but I know it will bite me eventually and that is wrong.”

This tournament gives Bruce the chance to open up more, though, and United romped to a 7-0 success at Morecombe in the third round.

Joelinton’s double and a goal for Miguel Almiron showed the benefit of that outing, as both have struggled to score since moving to Tyneside for big fees.

On pushing for a cup run, Bruce commented: “I’ve said it many, many times now, we’re capable of winning five games, which gets you maybe to a cup final.”

That attitude steers us towards 21/2 for a 3-1 away win to finish off our Newport vs Newcastle betting tips.

Last Newcastle line-up: Darlow, Lascelles, Fernandez, Manquillo, Shelvey, Ritchie, Hayden, Hendrick, Almiron, Joelinton, Wilson.
