Kick-off: 1500, 26/12/2022

Stadium: Goodison Park

TV: Amazon Prime

Two teams desperate for a win for Christmas meet at Goodison Park when Everton host Wolves.

The Toffees are hovering just above the relegation zone after just three victories this season but that is one more than their opponents who are rooted to the foot of the table.

A home win at 27/20 is our first Everton vs Wolves prediction.

Everton Odds

The problem Toffees boss Frank Lampard has is easy to see. There is only one team in the top flight with fewer goals this season – and that’s Wolves.

Everton have netted 11 in their 15 games while Wolves have managed just eight in the same number of matches.

Heading into the World Cup break there was little to cheer for either team.

The Toffees have lost six of eight and won just once – 3-0 against Crystal Palace – but the men from Molineux have been as bad.

They sacked manager Bruno Lage in early October and Julen Lopetegui took the job last month. By that time they had been on a run that reads seven losses, two wins and a draw from their last 10.

So on paper this fixture might not be a Christmas cracker and a nervy affair is likely.

Looking at the Everton vs Wolves odds, the 8/5 on offer that the first half ends goalless appeals.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Odds

Wolves have one advantage over Everton heading into this one – they warmed up for the return to action with a 2-0 EFL Cup victory over Gillingham.

A Raul Jimenez penalty and Rayan Ait Nouri’s stoppage-time strike got the job done in Lopetegui’s first competitive match in charge.

“For me, the only aim in front is the next match,” said the Spaniard. “We have to put the focus here because it is the only way that I know to build something good and we want to build it.

“We try to be very disciplined about our thoughts and we want to only put our focus on the game in front, and we prepare for this match in our daily work.

“We must not think about the table now. The next three points, they are key for us and we have to arrive at this match like a final. We have to put this feeling in each match and not think about a lot of things.

“I think the fans of the club and the players, they know and they are aware of what our situation is. We have to accept this, but at the same time, we want to change it.”

A look at their head-to-head record with Everton might give an idea of how things might play out.

Five of the last six meetings have been settled by the odd goal – Wolves winning 1-0 in the corresponding fixture last term and 2-1 on their own patch.

The season before, Everton did the double, 1-0 and 2-1, and in 2019-20 Wolves won 3-0 at home and Everton delighted their own fans by edging a five-goal thriller.

Another 3-2 win to the Toffees is 28/1 but only twice in 17 games in all competitions this season have they managed to score more than once.

A 1-0 home win is much more likely and at 25/4 that rounds off our Everton vs Wolves betting tips.
