Tunisia and Nigeria both suffered heart-breaking semi-final defeats at the Africa Cup of Nations and Wednesday’s third-place play-off will be a test of their resolve.
The Super Eagles have tried to play more enterprising football throughout the whole tournament, though, so the feeling is that they will still be up for this challenge.
We’re taking 8/5 for Gernot Rohr’s side to prevail in normal time for our first Tunisia vs Nigeria prediction.
A Look At Tunisia’s Betting Odds
Tunisia laboured through the group stage but did come on strong in the knockout rounds, edging out Ghana on penalties and then beating surprise quarter-finalists Madagascar 3-0.
However, a bizarre own goal in extra-time ended their title hopes when taking on Senegal in the semis.
A mistake by goalkeeper Mouez Hassen in the 100th minute saw the ball bounce off the head of defender Dylan Bronn and trickle into the net.
Hassen came racing towards the penalty spot to try to cut out a cross from the right flank but completely missed the ball, which then hit the unfortunate Bronn.
Both teams had earlier missed penalties, while the Eagles of Carthage had another spot-kick ruled out by VAR after Salif Sane headed the ball against Idrissa Gueye’s arm.
Alain Giresse has a well-drilled squad, but we just fear a lack of star quality may cost them in a more open contest for the bronze medal.
Looking at the Tunisia vs Nigeria odds, there is value appeal in 5/1 for the Super Eagles to win and both teams to score.
A Look At Nigeria’s Betting Odds
Nigeria have been entertaining to watch in the latter stages of this competition, beating Cameroon 3-2 and South Africa 2-1 to reach the last four.
In the semis, Algeria went ahead courtesy of a first-half own goal by William Troost-Ekong, with the Udinese central defender turning a Riyad Mahrez cross into his own net.
Odion Ighalo equalised with a penalty for the Super Eagles, with the spot-kick awarded for handball after a VAR review.
An additional 30 minutes seemed likely, but Mahrez settled the tie with what proved to be the last kick of the match, curling in a free-kick from just outside the area.
Head coach Rohr was pragmatic in defeat, stating: “We won the last game against South Africa late and here we lost – that is football.”
However, former Watford striker Ighalo should still be fired up for this consolation prize, as he leads the Golden Boot race on four goals.
He can inspire the Super Eagles to a 2-1 triumph at 19/2 to finish off our Tunisia vs Nigeria betting tips.
