Manchester United are not able to be picky about which trophies they win these days and will be relieved to be hosting lower-league opposition in the FA Cup fourth round.
United went into the winter break on the back of two successive Premier League wins and can use the cup tie to get back into the swing of things ahead of a decent run of league matches.
Their visitors are the lowest scorers in the top half of the Championship and a home win to nil at 2.05 is our opening Man Utd vs Middlesbrough prediction.
Manchester United Odds
There were no new additions to the United squad during the transfer window and Jesse Lingard remains at Old Trafford, although several players moved on.
Donny Van De Beek was allowed to make a deadline-day loan move to Everton, Anthony Martial has joined Sevilla until the end of the campaign and Amad Diallo headed to Rangers.
The year started with a disappointing defeat at home to Wolves but United were building some momentum when the season was paused and boss Ralf Rangnick will hope they can continue where they left off.
A 1-0 win in the FA Cup third round against Aston Villa was followed by United taking seven points from three league games against Villa, Brentford and West Ham to put them firmly in contention for a Champions League place.
Marcus Rashford has come off the bench to score in the last two matches and with Mason Greenwood unavailable for selection, Rashford could get more minutes on the pitch.
Looking at the Man Utd vs Middlesbrough odds, the England international appeals at 4.33 to open the scoring.
Middlesbrough Odds
Middlesbrough made hard work of getting past Mansfield in the third round but will have been glad they did once the draw was made.
They cruised into a 2-0 lead at Field Mill but the League Two side hit back and equalised late on, only for Boro to snatch victory with an own goal in the fifth minute of injury time.
Winning promotion back to the Premier League is the main priority this season and they are looking good for a play-off place due to a major improvement under Chris Wilder which has seen them win seven and lose just one of their last nine Championship matches.
They have only conceded four goals during that run and Wilder has his team well organised and they are unlikely to be blown away at Old Trafford, especially with almost 9,500 away fans cheering them on.
Ultimately United’s quality should see them come out on top but Boro are likely to be competitive for long spells so a 2-0 home win at 6.00 completes our Man Utd vs Middlesbrough betting tips.
