FA Cup guide and betting odds: All you need to know

The FA Cup is the oldest national football competition in the world.

Wanderers were the first winners in 1872, beating Royal Engineers 1-0 in the final at Kennington Oval.

Arsenal are the most successful team in the competition, having lifted the trophy on 14 occasions, two more than Manchester United.

Here is all you need to know in our FA Cup guide and betting odds for the 2023-24 campaign.

Who are the holders?

Manchester City won the 2023 FA Cup final after Ilkay Gundogan’s jaw-dropping double helped earn an unforgettable 2-1 win against rivals Manchester United as part of their historic treble.

Wembley witnessed an all-Manchester epic as the neighbours met in a major final for the first time, bringing the curtain down on the domestic season in enthralling fashion.

City emerged triumphant thanks to Gundogan’s fine volleys that kept Pep Guardiola’s men on course to emulate United’s 1999 treble heroics, something they did the following weekend when beating Inter Milan in the Champions League showpiece.

Gundogan regularly proved to be a man for the big occasions during his time with City and the German midfielder lashed home a record-breaking opener after just 12 seconds.

Gundogan’s stupendous volley was the fastest FA Cup final goal and looked set to spark a derby humiliation, only for United to draw level against the run of play through Bruno Fernandes’ penalty.

But Guardiola’s men would not be denied a seventh FA Cup triumph, with Gundogan volleying home what proved to be the winner from the edge of the box early in the second half.
