Brentford start life in the Premier League by hosting London rivals Arsenal in the opening match of the new season.
The Bees secured promotion to the top flight for the first time in the club’s history by winning the Championship play-off final against Swansea.
Thomas Frank’s side are likely to find the going tough and are one of the favourites in the Premier League relegation odds so an away win with both teams scoring at 12/5 is our first Brentford vs Arsenal prediction.
A Look At Brentford’s Betting Odds
Having lost to Fulham in last year’s play-off final, Brentford bounced back from that defeat and the loss of key players to get the job done at Wembley 12 months on.
Playmaker Said Benrahma and striker Ollie Watkins were sold to West Ham and Aston Villa respectively, but Frank led his side to a third-placed finish at the end of the regular season.
Ivan Toney came in to fill Watkins’ boots and netted 33 times last season, including the opener in the 2-0 win over Swansea in the play-off final.
Frank’s side are renowned for playing attacking football and finished the campaign as top scorers in the division with 79, four more than champions Norwich.
Brentford only drew a blank in nine of their 46 matches and will be looking to start the season on the front foot.
They may catch the Gunners cold and are 29/20 for the first goal in the Brentford vs Arsenal odds.
The Bees are hoping continuity will prove the key to success, with £13.5million Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer and Midtjylland’s Frank Onyeka at £9m the only major additions.
Head coach Frank said of Ajer: “We wanted to get another central defender in and Kris was our first choice. We think he fits the position-specific profile perfectly, especially on the ball.
“Kris is very composed and can find the right passes between the lines. His level when bringing the ball forward is very high.”
A Look At Arsenal’s Betting Odds
Mikel Arteta will be looking for improvements at Arsenal after finishing last term in eighth place.
The Spaniard allowed David Luiz to leave and has replaced him with highly-rated Brighton centre-half Ben White for £50m.
Arteta said: “Ben was a top target for us and it’s great that we’ve completed his signing.
“He is an intelligent defender who is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and his style fits perfectly with us.”
Left-back Nuno Tavares has arrived from Benfica for around £8m and midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga switched from Anderlecht.
Arsenal ended the last campaign with five consecutive league wins, with record signing Nicolas Pepe coming into his own.
They will be looking to get up and running at the Brentford Community Stadium with games against Chelsea and Manchester City to come straight after.
Arsenal know the occasion that awaits them after travelling to another newly-promoted team from London, Fulham, on the first day of last season and cruising to a 3-0 win.
Things may be tougher this time around so a 2-1 win at 15/2 is our final Brentford vs Arsenal prediction.
BRENTFORD 2-0 Swansea – Ivan Toney, Emiliano Marcondes
ARSENAL 2-0 Brighton – Nicolas Pepe (2)
Head-to-head: Arsenal 3-1 Brentford
