Ajax ripped Lyon apart almost at will in the first leg of their Europa League tie, but we are expecting the roles to be reversed in the return fixture in France.
Lyon have scored 13 goals in three straight home wins during the knockout rounds of this competition, while Ajax have not prevailed in any of their last five European away games.
We’re kicking off our Lyon vs Ajax betting tips by taking 19/10 for a home victory and both teams to score.
A Look At Lyon’s Betting Odds
Lyon have given themselves a mountain to climb after losing 4-1 in Amsterdam and are now 15/4 underdogs to fight back and make it through to the final in Sweden.
However, they did beat AZ Alkmaar 7-1 here and claimed home wins over Roma and Besiktas, so their fanatical fans will be hoping a couple of early goals can turn this tie around.
Maxwell Cornet almost put them in front in Holland and Nabil Fekir missed a golden opportunity to pull it back to 3-2 at one stage, so they look sure to get chances on home turf.
Looking at the Lyon vs Ajax odds, the hosts do appeal at 7/4 to score three or more times.
A Look At Ajax’s Betting Odds
However, it also has to be noted that Ajax could easily have doubled their tally in the first leg but for some acrobatic saves by Anthony Lopes and wasteful finishing from the otherwise excellent Amin Younes.
This incredibly exciting, but also very young Ajax side had to come through some shaky moments at Schalke in the quarter-finals, losing 2-0 in 90 minutes and actually going behind on aggregate in extra-time.
Younes was one of the goalscorers who lifted them to victory in the second period of that additional half-an-hour in Germany, though, and the Dutch outfit look capable of doing just enough again here.
Both teams to score in the first half is available at 11/5.
AJAX 4-1 LYON – Bertrand Traore (2), Kasper Dolberg, Amin Younes + Mathieu Valbuena
Previous head-to-head: Lyon 0-0 Ajax, Ajax 0-0 Lyon, Lyon 0-2 Ajax, Ajax 2-1 Lyon.
