Manchester United and West Ham return to Premier League action after wins in Europe on Thursday night extended their decent runs of form.
United gave us a 19/4 correct score pay-out with a 3-0 victory over Sheriff while West Ham secured a place in the last 16 of the Europa Conference League after beating Silkeborg 1-0.
Both teams have had plenty of low-scoring games recently and with fatigue possibly a factor too, we like under 2.5 goals at evens as our opening Man Utd vs West Ham prediction.
Manchester United Odds
Thursday’s win was a fourth successive clean sheet for United at Old Trafford but the next job for Erik ten Hag is to add goals to their developing game – progress that the continued absence of Anthony Martial has hampered.
Handed the reins following a wretched 2021-22 campaign at Old Trafford, the team has made clear progress on and off the field since the meticulous Dutchman took charge in the summer.
There have been some bumps in the road but United have also recorded wins over Liverpool, Tottenham and table-topping Arsenal, leaving them sixth heading into the weekend.
Ten Hag’s side are three points off third but their goal difference is a problem, having scored just 16 goals in their opening 11 Premier League matches – one fewer than Manchester City star Erling Haaland’s individual haul.
United often take a while to get going too, with just five of their goals being scored in the first half while their five league games at Old Trafford have featured just four first-half goals at either end.
Looking at the Man Utd vs West Ham odds, we like 21/10 for a goalless first half.
Last Man Utd line-up: De Gea, Lindelof, Martinez, Malacia, Dalot, Fernandes, Eriksen, Casemiro, Ronaldo, Antony, Garnacho.
Martial is set to miss out with a back injury and fellow France international Raphael Varane will be sidelined but defender Harry Maguire made his return from injury as a substitute on Thursday, as did midfielder Donny Van De Beek.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is back in team training but Brandon Williams and Axel Tuanzebe remain long-term absentees.
West Ham Odds
David Moyes returns to Old Trafford looking to improve his poor record at this venue but West Ham are not prolific in front of goal either.
Manuel Lanzini’s first-half penalty on Thursday was enough to ensure they maintained their perfect record in Europe this season with a seventh win from their seven matches in total.
In the Premier League, the Hammers have only managed three goals in six away games although they have only conceded six.
Jarrod Bowen was absent on Thursday with an ankle injury which Moyes hopes is not too serious.
On the plus side, the Scotsman was able to finally hand a debut to Nayef Aguerd, the Morocco defender signed for £30million in the summer only to suffer an ankle injury in pre-season.
All that leads us towards a low-scoring game but the hosts have the quality needed to make a breakthrough and we’re backing them for a fourth 1-0 win of the season at 13/2 to complete our Man Utd vs West Ham betting tips.
That would have paid out in the last two meetings at Old Trafford and three of the last four in all competitions!
Last West Ham line-up: Areola, Johnson, Coufal, Ogbonna, Aguerd, Emerson, Fornals, Lanzini, Coventry, Antonio, Benrahma.
West Ham will check on Bowen, who has resumed light training and will be assessed ahead of kick-off. Lucas Paqueta (shoulder), Craig Dawson (dead leg) and Maxwel Cornet (calf) are still out.
