Winnipeg will have spent their bye week dwelling on a first defeat of the season and Calgary are expected to feel the backlash at IG Field.
These teams have already produced a couple of cracking contests this term but the Blue Bombers ultimately prevailed by seven points on each occasion.
We reckon 1.91 for them to again cover a 5.5 start on the spread is the way to go with our initial Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs Calgary Stampeders prediction.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers Odds
Winnipeg’s bid to make it a perfect 10-0 in 2022 fell short in agonising fashion, losing 20-17 at home to Montreal in overtime.
Alouettes kicker David Cote slotted over a 43-yard field goal in the extra period before Marc Liegghio failed to respond by hitting the post from 37 out.
Wide receiver Dalton Schoen and running back Brady Oliveira registered scores, while quarterback Zach Collaros completed 21 of 27 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown.
Getting a first rest of the campaign will be seen as scant consolation for missing out on a record-equalling start but the Blue Bombers should return refreshed and refocused.
A mean defence which has allowed just 18.2 points per game and only 13 touchdowns so far will certainly have welcomed the chance to recharge their batteries.
“Mistakes have been made but one of the things we’ve improved on is we’re making it harder and harder for teams to move the ball on us,” linebacker Adam Bighill told the club website.
“We’re playing good football. Guys are flying around and making their plays. We’re not giving up lots of touchdowns, which is great, and we’re just making it hard for teams to score points.”
Looking at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs Calgary Stampeders odds, we feel that strong home defence makes 1.91 for under 48.5 total points a solid selection.
That bet would have paid out in all four fixtures played at IG Field this season!
Calgary Stampeders Odds
Calgary deserve plenty of credit for the way they have built up a 6-3 record after winning 22-19 at Toronto last weekend.
The Stamps trailed 19-10 late on in the third quarter at BMO Field but defensive back Elie Bouka returned an interception for a touchdown to spark the comeback.
Kicker Rene Paredes was successful with two field goals in the fourth and the defence did the rest.
“We just trusted in the system, we just trust the guys on the field and we just kept playing,” said Bouka.
“They got us a few times on certain plays but we tightened a few things up at half-time and came back just believing we could win and we did that.”
Calgary have been competitive in all three defeats this term, most recently going down 41-40 to the BC Lions in Week 10.
However, they were beaten 26-19 and 35-28 by Winnipeg either side of a Week 7 bye and are not helped by a short turn-around here.
Let’s go with 4.5 for Dave Dickenson’s side to fall by 7-12 points again in our Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs Calgary Stampeders betting tips.
