The Los Angeles Lakers continue to lead the way in the Western Conference and are firm favourites to extend their winning run to nine matches tonight.
It has been a much more difficult start to the season for the New Orleans Pelicans, who are languishing in 11th in the same conference with only six wins from 17 matches.
There is little to suggest they can cause an upset tonight so the visitors are fancied to cover 6.5 points on the spread at 19/20 as our opening Pelicans vs Lakers prediction.
A Look At Los Angeles Lakers’ Betting Odds
Anthony Davis returns to his former team tonight for the first time since joining the Lakers in the summer.
Davis switched to LA, with Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and Lonzo Ball heading in the opposite direction, with results so far suggesting the Lakers got the better of the deal.
Davis has teamed up well with LeBron James and the pair were too hot to handle for the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night in a 114-104 victory.
James paced the Lakers with 33 points and 14 assists and he was ably supported by Davis, who recorded a double-double of his own with 19 points – 13 coming in the second half – and 12 rebounds.
It is in defence where the Lakers are particularly strong. Their average of 112.1 points scored per game is only the 13th best in the NBA but they have the third best defence, allowing only 103.2 points per game.
Under 224.5 total points would have paid out in six of their last seven matches so that looks good value at 3/2 in the Pelicans vs Lakers odds.
A Look At New Orleans Pelicans’ Betting Odds
The former Lakers players in the Pelicans camp will have extra incentive to prove themselves tonight but their early-season struggles suggest that is unlikely.
The absence of Zion Williamson has also been a major blow for the Pelicans and they are expected to continue to flounder at least until he returns next month.
They were beaten 134-109 by the Clippers on Sunday night and although they have had time to recover from their trip to LA, it is hard to see them bouncing back against the Clippers’ city rivals.
