We’ve got NBA All Star Weekend predictions for the big game in Chicago, plus some of the spectacular sideshows set to take place at United Center.
Basketball fans will be treated to all kinds of incredible events, which will be broadcast live in the UK by Sky Sports across three action-packed nights.
Here are our NBA All Star Weekend betting tips and odds:
Skills Challenge – KHRIS MIDDLETON @ 9/2
The Milwaukee Bucks forward has been in fine form this term, only being overshadowed by teammate Giannis Antetokounmpo, and earned a deserved place on the Eastern Conference reserves list for the All Star Game. The 28-year-old has been something of a slow burner in the pro ranks but last summer’s five-year $178million deal put him on a new level and he has fully justified the faith placed in him. The agility and versatility displayed by Middleton on a regular basis will stand him in good stead for this event.
Three Point Contest – TRAE YOUNG @ 7/2
Defending champion Joe Harris and 2018 hero Devin Booker are assured of support again in the NBA All Star Weekend odds, but Young will be a man on a mission in Chicago. The Atlanta Hawks point guard was upset at being snubbed from a 44-player list of potential USA Olympics team members this week and has a point to prove. He told ESPN: “Obviously, I was kind of hurt and felt like I deserved to be on that list, but it’s not going to stop me from working hard and continuing to get better.”
Slam Dunk Contest – AARON GORDON @ 6/5
LA Lakers star Dwight Howard is back looking to reclaim the crown he took as long ago as 2008 but youthful exuberance is essential and we prefer 2016 runner-up Gordon. His duel with Zach LaVine in Toronto ranks right up there with the best battles of all time, often compared against Michael Jordan vs Dominique Wilkins in 1988 in this city for top honours. Asked about winning this title for Orlando, the Magic forward told the NBA website: “It would be incredible. It would be one of the best things I’ve ever done. My mentality is to do dunks that have never been done before and to have fun – I think I might just take a chance.”
NBA All Star Game – TEAM LEBRON TO WIN @ 1/2
Antetokounmpo is the dominant force in the NBA right now and the Team Giannis captain looks on course for another season MVP gong, but the Western Conference have the edge in strength in depth. LeBron James will link up with Lakers teammate Anthony Davis to great effect, while Clippers ace Kawhi Leonard is always up for the big occasions. Add on Dallas guard Luka Doncic and Houston points machine James Harden and it is hard to spot a weakness in this starting line-up. The bench isn’t bad either, with Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook offering great experience and Nikola Jokic heading the young guns.
