Djokovic vs Berrettini: Nole to tough it out in final

Novak Djokovic can claim a record-equalling 20th grand slam title by beating Matteo Berrettini, but may not have things all his own way.

The Serbian superstar has not quite been on top form at Wimbledon and Berrettini is playing well enough to make his presence felt on Centre Court.

Even so, it is hard to oppose the favourite and 5/2 for him to prevail 3-1 is our first Djokovic vs Berrettini prediction.

A Look At Novak Djokovic’s Betting Odds

Djokovic is one win from drawing alongside fellow legends Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in terms of major triumphs.

He is chasing a third straight Wimbledon success and sixth overall, plus a hat trick of slams this season following Australian and French Open victories.

The general consensus is that Djokovic has been grinding out wins over the past fortnight, though, rather than blitzing his opponents.

Admittedly, he has claimed 18 straight sets since slipping up in the opener versus British teenager Jack Draper.

However, Djokovic admitted the scoreline of his 7-6 7-5 7-5 semi-final success against Denis Shapovalov did not tell the story of the match.

Canadian 22-year-old Shapovalov, playing in his first grand slam semi-final, was the better player for most of the first two sets.

But he faltered when serving for the opener and failed to convert his chances in the second before falling to defeat in three of the tightest sets imaginable.

“He had a lot of opportunities and just didn’t manage to close it out when he needed to,” said Djokovic.

Looking ahead to the decider, he added: “Obviously, experience is on my side, but Berrettini has been winning a lot of matches on grass courts this year, winning Queen’s.”

Examining the Djokovic vs Berrettini odds, we like 4/5 for the underdog with 5.5 games start on the handicap list.

A Look At Matteo Berrettini’s Betting Odds

Berrettini is hoping to set up a super Sunday for Italy ahead of the Azzurri’s clash with England in the Euro 2020 final.

“It’s a great day, a great sport day,” said the 25-year-old. “I’m really happy that together with football, now we are one of the biggest sports in Italy.

“I would say buy a nice TV if you don’t have one already because I think it’s going to be a special Sunday for all of us.”

He became the first Italian man to reach the SW19 showpiece after an impressive 6-3 6-0 6-7 6-4 victory over Hubert Hurkacz.

Hurkacz had previously seen off Roger Federer and Daniil Medvedev but said: “Matteo played an unbelievable match.

“Every single service game he was serving bombs. I didn’t have many chances, basically probably zero.”

The big concern is that Berrettini has had a pretty favourable route to the final, so may not be prepared for this step up in class.

However, he did take a set off Djokovic in the quarter-finals at Roland Garros and seems in great spirits.

If his serve stays as strong as it has been on grass this season, 21/10 for a tie-break in set one is worth adding to our Djokovic vs Berrettini betting tips.
