We’re posting ATP World Tour Finals 2018 predictions throughout the London tournament and have a 21/10 double for the fifth day of action at O2 Arena.
The Lleyton Hewitt group concludes and the pressure is definitely hotting up as players chase a place in the semi-finals.
Kei Nishikori to beat Dominic Thiem @ 53/100
Nishikori was on cloud nine after stunning Roger Federer first up, but was then brought crashing back down to earth in a brutal 6-0 6-1 loss to Kevin Anderson.
However, that reversal was a rare blip in the Japanese star’s excellent run of form over the second half of the season.
The world number nine took his career record against Thiem to 3-1 when blitzing the Austrian 6-3 6-1 on home turf in Vienna last month and has much more to play for here.
Thiem has looked out of sorts in two straight defeats at the O2 Arena and is quoted at long odds to reach the semis.
He commented: “First of all, I have to get my tennis back. If I don’t get it back, I don’t need to watch for the other results because then I will also lose my third match.”
We just get the feeling those are the words of a man in need of a break to regroup and Nishikori is a percentage pick for our ATP World Tour Finals 2018 betting tips.
Roger Federer to beat Kevin Anderson 2-0 @ 21/20
Federer bounced back from a surprise loss to Nishikori to see off Thiem 6-2 6-3 in smooth fashion and can build on that by powering to victory here.
The Swiss ace prevailed in his first four encounters with Anderson without dropping a set and was 2-0 up at Wimbledon this year before the South African pulled off an amazing comeback to advance.
Six-time champion Federer put Tuesday’s return to form down to taking a break from practice to clear his head and insists that defeat against Anderson at the All England Club will not play on his mind here.
“I don’t think I’ll go into the match thinking too much of it,” declared the evergreen 37-year-old.
“I think I have enough things to focus on from my own side, from my own game, to make sure I play a good match against him.
“I’m really excited to get a chance to play him again, to be honest. I’ve played well against him in the past. I hope I can reproduce something like that.”
Anderson can afford to rest on his laurels after two impressive victories so far in London and that makes him worth taking on in our ATP World Tour Finals 2018 predictions.
