Wolves have to bounce back from Saturday’s 5-2 drubbing by Chelsea but will be chasing a seventh straight Europa League victory when entertaining Braga in their Group K opener at Molineux.
Wanderers showed they mean business in this competition by beating Italian outfit Torino twice in the play-offs and their large Portuguese contingent will be fired up for this tie.
The hosts can be backed at 31/50 to get off to a fast start in this pool and that is our initial Wolves vs Braga prediction.
A Look At Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Betting Odds
Wolves were clinical in brushing aside Crusaders and Pyunik Yerevan by a combined aggregate score of 14-1 but predictably found Torino tougher foes.
However, Wanderers showed great spirit to prevail 3-2 in Italy and survived some strong pressure to oblige 2-1 in the return fixture at this venue.
Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo described qualifying for this stage as a “massive step” in the development of the club.
He added: “We want to improve during the competition and use the games as a tool to improve the team.”
As well as Nuno, there are seven Portuguese players in Wolves’ squad; Rui Patricio, Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Diogo Jota, Ruben Vinagre, Pedro Neto and Bruno Jordao.
The last couple are products of the Braga youth academy, while French defender Willy Boly once played for their opponents and Mexico striker Raul Jimenez scored three times against them when at Benfica.
Looking at the Wolves vs Braga odds, we like 33/20 for a home win and over 2.5 goals in the game.
A Look At Braga’s Betting Odds
Braga were fourth in Portugal’s top flight last term, trailing perennial powerhouses Benfica, Porto and Sporting by some way but finishing 15 points clear of the fifth team.
Early losses to Sporting and Benfica this term have again exposed their limitations, especially when going down 4-0 at home to the champions, while Friday’s 1-0 defeat at Vitoria Setubal was another blow.
However, they have been very positive in winning four straight Europa League qualifiers.
Brondby were beaten 4-2 in Denmark and 3-1 at Estadio AXA, while they followed up a 1-0 home win over Spartak Moscow by prevailing 2-1 in Russia.
Ricardo Horta scored all of the goals in the last round and looks the biggest attacking threat since the departure of last season’s leading marksman Dyego Sousa to China.
The visitors have shown enough to suggest they can make their presence felt at Molineux, but 25/2 for a 3-1 home win completes our Wolves vs Braga betting tips.
WOLVES 2-5 Chelsea – Abraham (og), Cutrone
Vitoria Setubal 1-0 BRAGA
