Chelsea boss Frank Lampard faces his former club in a crucial match at both ends of the Premier League table.
The Hammers were surprise 1-0 winners at Stamford Bridge in November but have only managed three victories since then and are in serious relegation danger, while Chelsea are on course for a top-four finish.
Both teams struggle to keep clean sheets though and we’re backing goals at both ends at 7/10 as our opening West Ham vs Chelsea prediction.
A Look At West Ham United’s Betting Odds
West Ham’s relegation fears have increased after resuming their season with back-to-back defeats, making it five losses from their last six games.
They have failed to score in the last three matches, having started life after lockdown with a 2-0 defeat at home to Wolves and going down by the same scoreline at Tottenham.
There is little sign of improvement either. Having started the season with three clean sheets in their first six games, the Hammers are now conceding far too easily and have not kept the opposition out since beating Bournemouth 4-0 on New Year’s Day.
Chelsea’s defensive record will give them some hope at least, with both teams scoring in 12 of their last 14 away games in the Premier League.
West Ham have scored more goals at home than any other team in the bottom half of the table, so an away win and over 2.5 goals appeals at 5/4 in the West Ham vs Chelsea odds.
Last West Ham line-up: Fabianski, Cresswell, Balbuena, Diop, Fredericks, Noble, Fornals, Soucek, Antonio, Rice, Bowen.
A Look At Chelsea’s Betting Odds
Chelsea will make the short trip across the capital boosted by their 1-0 win against Leicester at the weekend to reach the FA Cup semi-finals.
Ross Barkley’s third FA Cup goal of the season was enough to secure victory but Lampard has demanded an improvement from his side.
He was unhappy with their first-half display and made a triple substitution at the break with Ross Barkley, Cesar Azpilicueta and Mateo Kovacic coming on.
“I don’t think we’ve played that badly this season for 45 minutes,” said Lampard. “We’ve played better and lost games.
“I could have made more or different subs. We needed to drag ourselves out of a lethargic performance and we did. We were fortunate to be 0-0 at half-time and we must learn from little mistakes from the game.
“I don’t want to sound too down because it’s important to show you’ve got the grit to get a 1-0 win when you don’t play well. It looks like I’m criticising but it’s positive because it’s not the norm for us.”
We expect Chelsea to come out firing here and it is worth noting that they have won the first half in four of their last five league games.
The hosts have a poor second-half record too, so the Blues to win both halves at 29/10 is our final West Ham vs Chelsea prediction.
Last Chelsea line-up: Caballero, Rudiger, Zouma, James, Emerson, Kante, Mount, Pulisic, Gilmour, Abraham, Willian.
Tottenham 2-0 WEST HAM
Leicester 0-1 CHELSEA – Ross Barkley
Head-to-head: Chelsea 0-1 West Ham, Chelsea 2-0 West Ham, West Ham 0-0 Chelsea, Chelsea 1-1 West Ham, West Ham 1-0 Chelsea
