Sheff Utd vs Liverpool: Reds tipped to stop the rot

Liverpool will be looking to give their top-four prospects a much-needed boost when visiting Premier League basement dwellers Sheffield United.

However, the Blades have netted in six straight home games in all competitions and should be fired up for facing the Reds’ injury-ravaged defence.

We think 19/10 for an away win and both teams to score is the way to go with our first Sheff Utd vs Liverpool prediction.

A Look At Sheffield United’s Betting Odds

Sheffield United are as short as 1/50 to go down after suffering a trio of league defeats since a run of three wins in five games provided a glimmer of hope.

Last Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Fulham summed up their season, with the Blades denied a late penalty despite home goalkeeper Alphonse Areola clattering into Jayden Bogle.

“It’s incredible because I don’t think there’s a more straightforward decision this season,” fumed Chris Wilder. “In my opinion, it’s reckless, it’s out of control.

“They are not that bothered, nobody’s bothered about us; the only person who is bothered about Sheffield United is me.

“There would be some comment and debate and discussion and moaning and groaning if that happened to one of the big boys.”

The Blades have picked up just 11 points in 25 games and are 14 from safety, so it feels like they are now chasing mission impossible, rather than a great escape.

United won’t go down without a fight, though, and can take heart from having given Liverpool a couple of tough work-outs over the past 17 months.

They only went down by one goal here last term and led for a while before being beaten 2-1 at Anfield in October.

Looking at the 13/5 for the Blades to lose out by the narrowest of margins again.

Last Sheff Utd line-up: Ramsdale, Baldock, Stevens, Basham, Jagielka, Ampadu, Bryan, Fleck, Lundstram, McBurnie, Sharp.

A Look At Liverpool’s Betting Odds

Liverpool have lost all four of this month’s Premier League games after being beaten at Anfield by neighbours Everton for the first time since 1999.

An early Richarlison strike and Gylfi Sigurdsson’s late penalty ensured the Reds are on their worst domestic run since 2002.

However, Jurgen Klopp remains adamant that it is not all doom and gloom, with a 2-0 Champions League triumph over RB Leipzig supporting his view.

“We were dominant in most of the games,” declared the German. “In the decisive moments, we make either a mistake, or something strange happens.

“That’s how it is; if we make a mistake, it’s pretty much 100 per cent that the opponent scores from it – and if we force them to make mistakes, it doesn’t mean we will immediately score.

“The boys are still full of desire but to change football games and results you have to be decisive in the offensive and defensive moments and that is what we are lacking.”

In the last 11 matches, there have been just two clean sheets, with Jordan Henderson becoming the fifth centre-back option ruled out by injury.

Ozan Kabak has played three games and been booked in all of them, while fellow deadline-day arrival Ben Davies is yet to feature, so Nat Phillips could come in here.

At the other end, though, Mohamed Salah is still the Premier League’s leading scorer with 17 and his 24 in all competitions is one more than he managed last season.

Let’s add 15/2 for a 2-1 away win to our Sheff Utd vs Liverpool betting tips.

Last Liverpool line-up: Alisson, Kabak, Robertson, Alexander-Arnold, Wijnaldum, Thiago, Henderson, Jones, Firmino, Mane, Salah.
