Scotland can continue their late World Cup qualifying surge by winning in Slovenia on Sunday to secure a place in the Russia 2018 play-offs.
Gordon Strachan’s side have picked up 13 points out of 15 from their last five Group F games and travel to Ljubliana with all the momentum.
Another tight, tense tussle is on the cards, but 9/5 for an away win is good enough for our Slovenia vs Scotland betting predictions.
A Look At Slovenia’s Betting Odds
Slovenia could still mathematically secure second place in this pool but they would need to prevail here and hope that Malta cause a massive upset by avoiding defeat in Slovakia.
The hosts have been strong at Sportni Park Stozice, securing three wins and a draw with England at this venue, keeping four straight clean sheets in the process.
However, we feel Thursday night’s 1-0 loss to the Three Lions at Wembley will have knocked the stuffing out of them and head coach Srecko Katanec has already announced he will move on after this match.
We’re taking 16/5 for the visitors to win by a one-goal margin in our Slovenia vs Scotland betting tips.
A Look At Scotland’s Betting Odds
We were on Scotland to edge out Slovakia on Thursday and cashed in thanks to Martin Skrtel’s own goal in the closing stages at Hampden Park.
The Scots only just scrambled past opponents who were reduced to 10 men midway through the first half following the dismissal of Robert Mak.
However, they had pummelled Slovakia’s goal, with Martin Dubravka pulling off a world-class stop from Christophe Berra, twice saving well from Leigh Griffiths and denying James Morrison and Andy Robertson from close range.
Chris Martin and Griffiths were both denied by the crossbar before former Liverpool defender Skrtel sliced the ball past his own keeper.
“We have worked very, very hard in this campaign to get to a point like this and we didn’t want to throw it away,” said Martin. “I think you saw that belief and that character to keep going.”
Martin’s late winner against Slovenia at Hampden in March kick-started a charge which has seen them close in on a place in the Russia 2018 play-offs.
“We have gained real momentum over the last few months with the performances and results we have had,” the Derby striker added.
“Winning breeds confidence. We are playing a hell of a lot better than we were towards the start of the campaign and hopefully we will get the rewards for the hard work we have put in.”
Slovenia did show some nice touches on the rare occasions they opened up at Wembley, so they could pose a threat going forward, but Scotland’s hunger and desire are taken to win the day.
Looking at the Slovenia vs Scotland odds, we like 19/2 for a 2-1 away victory.
England 1-0 SLOVENIA
SCOTLAND 1-0 Slovakia – Martin Skrtel (og)
Head-to-head: Scotland 1-0 Slovenia, Slovenia 1-1 Scotland, Slovenia 0-3 Scotland, Scotland 0-0 Slovenia
