Russia vs Denmark: Danes deserve Parken triumph

Kick-off: 2000, 21/06/2021

Stadium: Parken Stadium

TV: BBC Two

Denmark deserve great credit for their performance in defeat versus Belgium and can hopefully still qualify from Group B by beating Russia.

A lively atmosphere is assured again at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen and that spells trouble for Stanislav Cherchesov’s poor travellers.

In what promises to be a cracking contest, 31/20 for the Danes to win and over 2.5 goals in the game is our first Russia vs Denmark prediction.

A Look At Russia’s Betting Odds

Russia recovered from a 3-0 drubbing by Belgium to beat Finland 1-0 in Saint Petersburg thanks to a lovely strike from Aleksei Miranchuk.

Finland were a touch unfortunate to have a fine Joel Pohjanpalo header ruled out for offside but the hosts were superior overall.

Magomed Ozdoev, Vyacheslav Karavaev, Aleksandr Golovin, Rifat Zhemaletdinov and Daler Kuzyaev all went close to increasing the advantage.

Atalanta midfielder Miranchuk said: “What is important is we completed our task, won the game, got the much-needed three points and now we want to build on that.

“Have we missed a lot of chances? That’s football. It is important we are creating chances.”

Cherchesov added: “The players were a real team. They fulfilled what they had to do and got the win.

“The formation I chose, I think, was right. To break down their defence, we needed to use the wings and we did. The plan worked.”

Russia showed enough to suggest they can test Denmark’s defence as well but they conceded 10 goals in Nations League and World Cup away defeats against Turkey, Serbia and Slovakia over the past seven months.

Looking at the Russia vs Denmark odds, we like 13/5 for the Danes to win and both teams to score.

A Look At Denmark’s Betting Odds

Denmark can obviously be forgiven for a surprise 1-0 loss to Finland after what happened to Christian Eriksen and they played like an inspired outfit versus Belgium.

Yussuf Poulsen pounced on some poor defending to put the Danes in front and they were easily the better team in the opening period at this venue.

Unfortunately, half-time substitute Kevin De Bruyne turned things around by setting up Thorgan Hazard for a tap-in before netting himself.

Head coach Kasper Hjulmand commented: “As I told the players in the dressing room, the only thing I’m disappointed by is the result.

“I didn’t expect too much for this game but I can’t describe the pride I feel for this squad.

“Four days after almost losing one of their best friends, they get on and the play a game like this – this is just amazing.

“They totally dominated the best team in the world and I have so much respect.

“We’re going to stick together and we’re going to beat the Russians. We’re not done in this competition.”

Barcelona forward Martin Braithwaite came close to snatching a late equaliser versus the Red Devils and looked lively throughout that game.

Let’s finish off our Russia vs Denmark betting tips by taking 28/1 for him to score first in a 2-1 victory.
