Portugal and the Netherlands both look fired up for Nations League glory, but the Dutch were visibly more impressive in the semi-finals.
Holland had to go to extra-time to get past England but were worthy winners, whereas the hosts relied on the magic of Cristiano Ronaldo to see off Switzerland.
On the evidence of those matches, though, we’re taking Ronald Koeman’s men to lift the trophy at 51/50 for our first Portugal vs Netherlands prediction.
A Look At Portugal’s Betting Odds
Ronaldo’s stunning hat-trick, the 53rd of his amazing career, inspired Portugal to a 3-1 triumph over Switzerland.
Head coach Fernando Santos said: “He is a genius. There is genius paintings and sculptures and he is a football genius.”
Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva also caught the eye at the Estadio do Dragao, but it was a patchy performance from the hosts.
“We were anxious on the ball and I tried to fix this at half-time,” added Santos. “The side improved towards the end of the game.”
Swiss midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri commented: “We were the better team, for sure, but Ronaldo decided the game. This is football sometimes.”
Ronaldo and Silva will again pose a big threat going forward, but we fear the Dutch may dominate in other areas of the pitch.
Looking at the Portugal vs Netherlands odds, we like 19/4 for Holland to win in normal time and both teams to score.
A Look At Netherlands’ Betting Odds
The Netherlands benefited from some horror defending by England in extra-time to book their place in the decider.
John Stones and Ross Barkley were both guilty of calamitous errors as the Dutch eventually secured a 3-1 success.
However, Holland had been by far the better team during the initial 90 minutes, recovering from going behind to Marcus Rashford’s 32nd-minute penalty.
Matthijs de Ligt made amends for giving away that spot-kick when heading in a second-half equaliser, which was fully deserved.
“That was a positive match,” insisted head coach Koeman. “They went ahead but we kept our cool and we were quite comfortable. I thought we deserved it.
“We had control throughout, though we tended to use the flanks when it was through the middle that we were hurting them.”
De Ligt is not the finished article but forms a commanding defensive partnership with Virgil van Dijk, while the excellent Frenkie de Jong showed why he has been snapped up by Barcelona.
Holland can also take heart from a 3-0 friendly win in Portugal 15 months ago, even if Joao Cancelo was sent off on the hour mark.
This should be tighter, but 10/1 for the Dutch to prevail 2-1 is added to our Portugal vs Netherlands betting tips.
