Kick Off: 1300, 02/07/2017

Stadium: Spartak Stadium

Portugal will be without Cristiano Ronaldo for the Confederations Cup third-place play-off but are still fancied to prove too strong for Mexico in Moscow.

Ronaldo has been released to spend time with his new-born twins but we reckon Fernando Santos can still call on enough attacking talent to see off El Tri.

We’re on the Euro 2016 winners at 6/5 to prevail in normal time for our Portugal vs Mexico betting tips.

A Look At Portugal’s Betting Odds

Portugal twice surrendered the lead when drawing 2-2 with Mexico during the group stage but went on to top the table after being more impressive in wins over Russia and New Zealand.

Wednesday’s semi-final clash with Chile looked a quality affair, despite the lack of goals, and Portugal were unlucky to catch Claudio Bravo in inspired form during the penalty shoot-out.

“I thought it was a brilliant match between two great teams who both came out determined to win,” insisted Santos, who still seemed upbeat after that reversal.

Andre Silva has caught the eye during this tournament and should still enjoy good service from Bernardo Silva and Nani, if he replaces Ronaldo.

The AC Milan striker can be backed at 5/1 to open the scoring in the Portugal vs Mexico odds.

A Look At Mexico’s Betting Odds

Mexico followed up that opening draw with Portugal by labouring through 2-1 wins over New Zealand and Russia and didn’t really go into the semis with much momentum.

That was reflected in the way they were blown away early on by Germany and, although El Tri did create plenty of chances, they never quite recovered in a 4-1 loss.

“They were very efficient and we gave them too much room, but we should have scored at least one or two more goals,” commented Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio.

We feel El Tri had their limitations exposed both in terms of quality and self-belief and 8/1 they lose this game 2-1 completes our Portugal vs Mexico predictions.
