Mexico vs Brazil: Selecao have more star quality

Kick-off: 0900, 03/08/2021

Stadium: Kashima Stadium

The last two Olympic champions face off in this summer’s first semi-final and holders Brazil get the nod to edge out 2012 winners Mexico.

El Tri have been great to watch in Tokyo but their next opponents are a class apart on paper and possess far more big-match experience.

We’re going with the South Americans to prevail in normal time at 19/20 for our opening Mexico vs Brazil prediction.

A Look At Mexico’s Betting Odds

Mexico maintained their fearless approach to this tournament when blitzing South Korea 6-3 in the quarter-finals.

Henry Martin and Sebastian Cordova both hit doubles, while Luis Romo and Eduardo Aguirre also hit the target.

El Tri claimed a couple of convincing victories during the group stage, beating France 4-1 and South Africa 3-0.

However, they did lose 2-1 to Japan in between and this promises to be their toughest task to date.

Alexis Vega, who has been capped eight times at senior level, has caught the eye, while Real Betis winger Diego Lanez is another player to watch out for.

The vast majority of this squad have only been tested at domestic level for their clubs, though, and that could prove decisive.

Looking at the Mexico vs Brazil odds, we like 13/5 for El Tri to get on the scoresheet but taste defeat.

A Look At Brazil’s Betting Odds

Brazil were beaten finalists against Mexico in London but went one better on home turf in Rio and have again taken this competition very seriously.

Former Barcelona great Dani Alves is captain, while Everton forward Richarlison has five goals, including a hat-trick in an opening 4-2 victory over Germany.

Ivory Coast held Andre Jardine’s side to a goalless stalemate but Richarlison’s late brace helped them to beat Saudi Arabia 3-1.

Matheus Cunha passed Ronaldinho’s record for most goals at Under-23 level in that game and settled a 1-0 quarter-final success versus Egypt.

Richarlison found the Hertha Berlin front man on the edge of the area and he clinically netted in the bottom corner.

Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz went close with a free-kick and Cunha had another effort well saved on the break.

Gabriel Martinelli of Arsenal, Ajax winger Antony and Zenit St Petersburg ace Malcom add to the talent available.

The Selecao should enjoy taking on a team which comes to play and 13/1 for them to win 3-1 completes our Mexico vs Brazil betting tips.
