Liverpool transfer news: Reds still favourites to land Fekir

In the latest Liverpool transfer news, the club are evens to sign Nabil Fekir despite reportedly not having any plans to resurrect a deal for the Lyon playmaker.

The Reds were on the verge of completing a £53million deal for the Frenchman last summer as Jurgen Klopp looked to fill the void left by Philippe Coutinho’s move to Barcelona.

Fekir was interviewed for club media and even photographed in a shirt, but Liverpool pulled the plug at the last minute due to concerns over a historic knee injury.

They sought a second opinion after the initial medical and decided not to risk proceeding with such a high-value transfer.

Fekir scored 12 goals in 36 appearances last season, helping Lyon finish third in Ligue 1, which led to reports in France that Liverpool were likely to step up their interest in him again.

The 25-year-old is entering the final year of his contract with Lyon and would add creativity to a Liverpool midfield that had its limitations during their assault on the Premier League and Champions League.

But, despite all that, it is understood that the club’s stance has not changed and Fekir will not be arriving on Merseyside, leading to the possibility of a move elsewhere.

Real Madrid are 6/1 to secure his services but have already splashed the cash this summer, mainly on playmaker Eden Hazard from Chelsea.

Juventus, Paris St Germain and Atletico Madrid are all 7/1 to be Fekir’s next destination, with the Spanish side likely to have to replace France forward Antoine Griezmann.

Barcelona plus Manchester rivals City and United, all expected to make signings this summer, can be backed at 10/1 to recruit Fekir while Tottenham, who could lose Christian Eriksen, are 14/1.
