Stadium: St Mary’s Stadium

TV: BT Sport

Manchester United take a trip to the south coast to take on Southampton in a resurgent spirit following Monday’s incredible 2-1 win over Liverpool.

St Mary’s has been a happy hunting ground for United in recent seasons but their recent away record in the Premier League will give Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side belief.

We fancy a United win and over 2.5 goals in the match at 2.45 as our first Southampton vs Man Utd prediction.

Southampton Odds

Saints and their manager Hasenhuttl came into the season under pressure after a wretched end to the last campaign.

They only won one of their last 12 games at the end of last season and a 4-1 loss at Tottenham on the opening day only increased the scrutiny on the side.

But Saints have hit back well, battling from 2-0 down to draw with Leeds before earning a 2-1 win at Leicester.

“Today maybe when you want to speak about the difference it’s that there is a team that is super believing in what we’re doing and didn’t accept that we are not strong enough to take something here,” Hasenhuttl said after the Leicester match.

“This was very, very good to watch from everybody and a big compliment to the group, how it was working during the week because it’s not a coincidence.”

Southampton have not beaten United in 13 matches and have not won a home game against the Red Devils since 2003.

They have scored six goals in their last four home games in this fixture however and looking at the Southampton vs Man Utd odds, we fancy both teams to score in a United win at 3.1.

Last Southampton line-up: Bazunu, Walker-Peters, Kotchap, Salisu, Djenepo, Ward-Prowse, Lavia, Aribo, Elyounoussi, Armstrong, Mara.

Che Adams had an incredible impact against Leicester, coming off the bench to net twice, and will hope to be fit enough to get a starting spot against United.

Defender Romain Perraud (foot and groin) has returned to training and could be involved. Right-back Valentino Livramento (knee) remains unavailable.

Manchester United Odds

United were in crisis before Monday’s pulsating 2-1 win at Old Trafford.

New manager Erik ten Hag’s reign had got off to a disastrous start with defeat to Brighton and a thrashing at Brentford, against a backdrop of a chaotic transfer window and fan protests against the Glazer families’ ownership of the club.

But their display against their bitter rivals, which came after Ten Hag dropped captain Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo, was a world away from their first two matches and goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford in an all-action performance has ignited hope in United fans.

“I’m really happy and satisfied. We wanted a different approach and we have got that,” Ten Hag said.

“Brentford was not the way I want to play football. I want to see a team, I want to see players who fight. You have to be brave in and out of possession and I think we have seen that today all over the pitch.

“But we have a long way to go. When you are in a process you have to deal with setbacks but you also have highlights and today was a highlight.”

The question will be whether United can replicate that intensity against so-called lesser opposition.

They also have to arrest their dreadful away run, having lost their last seven league matches on the road stretching back to last season.

United’s new-found confidence should carry them over the line at St Mary’s and, after his impressive second-half showing against Liverpool, we fancy Rashford to open the scoring at 8.0 as the last of our Southampton vs Man Utd betting tips.

Last Manchester United line-up: De Gea, Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Malacia, Fernandes, McTominay, Eriksen, Sancho, Rashford, Elanga.

New signing Casemiro could make his United debut after completing his move from Real Madrid, but Anthony Martial is absent for the trip to the south coast with an Achilles injury.

Victor Lindelof is pushing to return, with Facundo Pellistri, Brandon Williams, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe among the absentees.
