Thanks to the sheer diversity of football available to watch both on TV and online – plus the huge success of the Champions League – most fans will fancy that they know a fair bit about the global game as well as their own domestic league. However we also suspect that the majority think that their country’s top flight is the best, even if they can’t prove it.
To test that knowledge and provide some fodder for debate, we’ve been spending our summer crunching the data from the last decade of action across the Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and the Belgian Pro League.
The eight most interesting comparisons have been built into our Greatest League in the World Quiz so that you can prove how well you know the game and pick up some useful stats into the bargain.
