Hungary were expected to be out of their depth in Nations League Group A3 but instead top the table ahead of Germany following four rounds of fixtures.

The Magyars can now afford to give it a real go when visiting Leipzig, before entertaining Italy in Budapest in their final match on Monday.

We feel 21/20 for both teams to score at Red Bull Arena is good value for our opening Germany vs Hungary prediction.

Germany Odds

Germany are still hot favourites to move into pole position to reach the finals following this game and Hansi Flick has the benefit of a full-strength squad to choose from.

Die Mannschaft began their campaign with a trio of 1-1 draws, visiting Italy and Hungary either side of hosting England.

Flick’s side then found top form in impressive fashion when thumping the Azzurri 5-2 in Monchengladbach.

Timo Werner bagged a braced in addition to earlier goals from Joshua Kimmich, Ilkay Gundogan and Thomas Muller before Italy claimed a couple of late consolation strikes.

After Joachim Low’s long and largely successful reign fizzled out with poor showings at the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020, Germany are clearly back on track under Flick.

They won nine of their 10 Qatar 2022 qualifiers, scoring 36 goals during that campaign, and are on a 13-match unbeaten run in all games.

One player who has come to the fore in this tournament is midfielder Jonas Hofmann, who scored against England and Hungary.

The 30-year-old hit a Bundesliga double for Borussia Monchengladbach versus RB Leipzig on Saturday and is 2/1 to net again in the Germany vs Hungary odds.

Hungary Odds

Hungary hinted that they were a team on the rise when performing with credit at Euro 2020, including a 2-2 draw with Germany.

The Magyars could only manage fourth in their World Cup pool due to a lack of consistency, but did pick up a point in England and beat Poland 2-1 away.

Having earned promotion in this competition by topping a strong B-level section which featured Russia, Serbia and Turkey, they have seized the opportunity to impress.

Marco Rossi’s side kicked off with a 1-0 home win over England before going down 2-1 in Italy and then drawing with Germany in Budapest.

At that stage, most pundits felt the Magyars had punched above their weight and that results would eventually go against them.

However, Hungary had other ideas and stunned the Three Lions via a sensational 4-0 triumph in Wolverhampton.

Roland Sallai put his side in control with a double strike and late efforts from Zsolt Nagy and Daniel Gazdag rubbed salt into England’s wounds.

“We played a very good game and deserved the result,” insisted Gazdag. “We had to defend well at the start but we improved and got more confident later in the game.”

It would be no surprise to see the Magyars follow a similar pattern of soaking up early pressure and then coming out more as the match goes on.

With that in mind, let’s add 5/2 for both teams to score in the second half to our Germany vs Hungary betting tips.
